And what is a “good deal” price-wise and what would be a ripoff?

I have a Samsung LCD television - very good picture, great remote, reasonable price. The picture is almost as good as a Sony, but much less expensive.
I considered Vizio, but I did not think the picture was as good as the Samsung.

My big TV went on the fritz a month back, so I hauled out my tiny Sony.
I committed to myself and my country that I would not buy a large flat screen TV until I am sure that Obama doesn't benefit from my purchase.
Amazing how good that tiny little Sony looks now!

I do not know about prices but a hotel I stayed in had a LG. The picture was great. Wal Mart would be a good place to go. I have a Samsung here by the computer but it is about 27”. It has good picture quality, too. Or, you could buy a 62” Pioneer Elite Pro-119 like I have. That would set you back about $6500.
