How would you distinguish that from an object giving off light about 5-15 feet from the deer?

The darkness made the camera require a long exposure time.
Then a bird flew in front of the camera at the exact same time the flash went off- so it is over-saturated with light
This is the source of the ‘orbs’ and ‘rods’ people see in night time photos.

Picture of game camera when it is snowing. Notice how large the snowflakes near the camera appear to be. Some of the snowflakes appear to be shooting upward as well, although you know that can't be the case.
