The construction methods were very different. The pyramids in the Mexico were constructed using earth and rubble as a core, with limestone as the exterior facing material. The Great Pyramids of Egypt were constructed using thousands of 2.5-ton limestone blocks throughout (with some huge granite blocks thrown in for good measure).
