was it blocked as an IP address, or only as a domain name/ needing DNS resolution?

No problem for me in Florida

I saw a freeper on the yahoo backup thread that experienced this too, from Florida.
I have centurylink for a provider but it appears that Level 3 was the culprit.

I am in Florida and did not see an outage, but I am at the office. A quick ping of my server at home, and it is still up and running.
Your traceroute is a little strange though. Usually Atlanta is the L3 hub for Florida, but it went all the way to Washington. Very interesting indeed, but I do not think there is any collusion. Perhaps your provider was re-directing traffic to perform maintenance on their switch gear?

FWIW, every time I go to foxnews.com today, AVAST yells it has blocked a trojan named “JS:small” or similar.

George from New England, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent vanity were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this thread is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The final act of tyranny and treason won't occur until after the elections next November or Nov. 2012.
The internet is the worst thing that's happened to the Government and the best thing that's happened for us. No more sweep under the rug coverups. No more swept under the rug crimes. The average person now has the power of adverse publicity directed at the unjust-—evidence can be publicly shown, witnesses can give testimony, videos and photos can be shown. It sucks to be a government crook now! A lot of the King's piggies are going to be barbequed in public.
