LANDOVER, Md. Sometimes 60 minutes of football comes down to one terrible decision by the offensive coordinator. Sometimes one chorus of "Hail to the Redskins" after a touchdown is all that it takes.
The Cowboys gave the Washington Redskins seven points on the last play of the first half, and in a game in which both offenses were supremely challenged, that was the difference.
Dallas was a 13-7 loser at FedEx Field on a night when, well, you can't say the Cowboys deserved to win, but they certainly weren't destined to lose.
Not until one ridiculous call, anyway.
In a situation where the only reasonable thing for the Cowboys to do was to have Tony Romo take a knee, Garrett called a pass play. This was 64 yards from the Redskins' goal line and with four seconds to go in the first half.
And instead of heaving a deep ball, Romo threw short to Tashard Choice. Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall stripped Choice of the ball, recovered the fumble and ran 37 yards for Washington's only touchdown of the night.
The game would end with Garrett and the offense getting a chance at redemption one final shot at the Washington end zone from the 13-yard line. But a holding call on tackle Alex Barron kept Romo's final pass to Roy Williams from meaning anything.
There was some measure of justice in that. You simply don't deserve a shot to win when you make a call as brutally bad as the one the Cowboys called at the end of the half.

LOL, I knew that would get a rise out of TCU fans.
Heck, I’d even take the guy who coaches at that other Metroplex school. SMU is going to be real good this year, and next year, even better. I really like that Padron kid.
Worst PRO head coach. The College crown goes to the bonehead at Marshall, who Prevent Defensed himself (on two consecutive 90+ yard WVU touchdown drives) out of a monumental win over West Virginia last week.
Two things the Cowboys need to be doing today:
1. Cut Barron
2. Audition for place kickers. Buehler lost the game with those missed FGs.
I am a Cowboys fan, and this looked like one of those times that Barney Fife was bumbling along and ended up shooting himself in the foot!
It was a VERY sad display! The Cowboys pretty much pushed the Redskins up and down the field; then they just fell apart every time they got on the other side of the 50 yard line!
SAD!
Agreed. Last night exemplified why the Rams were more than willing to depart with Barron. His technique was so poor.
And I can’t believe the play call to end the first half. I can’t believe they ran a play.
This never would have happened when the greatness of Jimmy was coaching there.
The Redskins finally got their “Jack Squirek” moment.
So, how ‘bout those Rangers?
I agree on the Jimmy issue, but he won’t be coming back (unfortunately).
So, I agree they ought to take a road trip from Valley Ranch over to the I-20 corridor and pick up a real coach!
Love that SWEEP!
I keep going back and forth on their chances, but if Cliff Lee really is back to form, and they get Josh back, and everybody else healthy, this could be a real tough team come playoff time. Good to see Vlad getting hot again.
I just wish they had a better manager, though.
The Boys will never win with Romo!
Then you missed seeing a good commercial

I am not going to complain about Washington - he has had them competitive every years since he has been here, so I will take that over ALL those lean years - LOL!
But, they definitely need to invest in a strength coach next season! This is two years in a row where we have lost upwards of half the team at various points throughout the season! You cannot win championships like that!
Now back to the idiot play of the Cowboys. The “make-or-break” playing style of Romo is what most of us Cowboys fans want to see! But he has GOT TO learn when to use that style and when NOT to use it!
He has the flash of a young Danny White, unfortunately, I think he will end up with the same accolades! The “almost” guy! More yards, touchdowns, points, etc... than Roger Staubach - NO Super Bowl appearances!
Oh; that's just because the Rangers didn't have to face any of the Yankees GOOD pitchers...(rolls eyes)
Actually, I'd propose something radical. Have Wade take over the offense too. If it performed as well as the D, Dallas would win the Super Bowl.
Totally disagree. Romo proves week in and week out that he is one of the better QBs in the game. Look at the last play of this game. He made an increible play, scrambling and throwing a touchdown. The bonehead lineman who wrapped his arm around the neck of the defender cost them a win. Romo is not Manning or Brees, but he is a good quarterback.
He fumbled the ball...how is it not his fault....this thread would not exist if he had simply held onto the ball like a RB is supposed to do.
“The Boys will never win with Romo!”
I am not sure if this is true, but they DEFINITELY need to teach him to reign in and control that make-or-break style!
Think of a young Danny White. He tried to make the “flashy” plays of Staubach and he ended up looking really bad. He could make good plays, but he just couldn’t get over the hump. Of course by the time he got to the point where he was a “successful” QB, he had a very conservative game plan that the late, GREAT Landry was dead set on using.
