There are lots of "lukewarm" Christians. (Rev. 3:16) These are Christians who go whichever way the wind blows. They don't want to make waves.
This is a characteristic of human nature and something we all must guard against (as Christians).
But seeing as how many Christians are lukewarm (vote democrat, embrace homosexuals [viz. Episcopalians]), would it follow that there are many muslims who similarly don't uphold Islam's murderous tenets?
Would you care to rephrase that comment?
Apostates . . . some.
The founding documents leave no room for authentic Muzzies to be anything but violent until the last ‘infidel’ is dead or converted.
Muslims, yes, Islam, No
NOPE!
Of course there is.... the question is as stupid as a lib that thinks any Southerner flying a Confederate flag is a Klansman
Haji was a Sikh
(1) Just like there are people who say there are Christians who do not follow the Bible, there are people who say they are Muslim who do not follow the Koran. It does the US no good to make those people our enemy.
(2) The big problem with Islam can be described by offering a contrast to Christianity. The Bible contains a LOT of God-supported violence (”Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”, the Old Testament penalty for adultery and provision for sex slaves, and even some out-of-context quotes in the New Testemant “I come not with peace, but with a sword”).
The contrast is this: Christianity does not routinely put Wiccans/adulteresses/disobedient children to death. Furthermore, Christian scholars are able to explain why such actions would be incompatible with Christian morals as exposed by Jesus (as opposed to just saying “That’s barbaric and we won’t do it”), and to give appropriate religious and historical context for the Old Testament quotes.
In Islam, the Islamic “scholars” are the ones pushing for Jihad. And I’m not aware of any Muslim who makes a serious claims that Jihad is incompatible with the Koran (just that “moderate Muslims” don’t support it or “we don’t do that anymore”).
Have you had any discussions regarding the current politically/cultural climate?
Neither is their definition of "innocent", nor of "charity/charitable".
For that matter, neither is their defintion of Jesus (Issa).
And finally, they somehow have the warped notion that Satan, rather than being a personage, is a nation near and dear to all of us.
Went quickly through the responses and they all seem to be saying NOPE. My, my how narrow minded and uninformed.
You guys need to go do some research on Sufism which originally came out of Turkey and spread through several of the Central Asian countries and Western China’s XinJiang Province. Also there are a lot of Sufi’s in southern Thailand around Puket and Krabi. Ever wonder why Turkey does a lot of business with Israel?
Can a muslim be moderate and peace loving. You bet! As a friend of mine told me when I was preparing to travel the Silk Road in Shaanxi, Gansu and Xinjiang provinces in China - the Sufi Muslims make Buddhists look like warmongers. I verified this statement for an entire month my wife and I traveled amongst them. The kindest and most hospitable people I have ever encountered (well, at least equal to the Thais anyway).
They are Muslims but are looked upon as heretics by Sunnis and Shiites. But then again, Sunnis look upon everyone else that way to include Shiites. As the founder of the Bahai religion once stated - We are all brothers and sisters under one god, except the Shiites and they are the abomination of the world.
Even my very good Shiite friend at an international university in Thailand was a bit scary in his views of life, liberty and the pursuit of jihad.
Maybe some of us would like to tune into those shows you can see that aren't aired here, and learn something.
Can't even try, if we don't know where (which country) to start.
Lots of them, they are all dead!
Actually, I think there are lots of “moderate” Muslims (mostly in the U.S.) — except that I think they are less “moderate” than simply apathetic. They’re the folk who run the corner 7-11 and are no more terrorist than you or me.
BUT ... the real problem is that they are apathetic, and they will NOT stand up for our Constitutional ideals. They know that being a Muslim who speaks out against the party line of hating the West will get them put on a fatwa list too. They are not at all interested in being good U.S. citizens. The very most we can expect from them is that they will keep their heads down and not act one way or another. But the worst we can expect is that they will help terroristic activities when coerced or bullied by extremist Muslims.
Apathetic Muslims are completely useless to us.
There are a very few true Moderate Muslims who are trying to reform Islam from within, and who speak out in the media about it. Uh, yeah, good luck with that, guys. You and Salman Rushdie. Try to avoid becoming fatwa-bait.
Oh there may be moderates. Moderate until a radical reminds them they have a duty to kill infidels everywhere and refusal is grounds for death.
A muslim who will shed his own blood for you, the infidel, against his own, that one, you may call brother.
That is a famous line from an old movie, obviously you have never seen it. I guess it didn’t play in your country.
Again, it is impossible for Islam to be viewed as in any way Christian, past or present, as they completely reject Jesus Christ.
Islam was born of pagan rituals. It was never Christian in any way, shape or form.
To claim that Islam was at one time Christian is blasphemy.
