Been there done that...earthquake of '94 lost my house to fire too. It's a long road, one that is never fully recovered.

What a nightmare. I can’t even imagine my entire neighborhood going up in a fireball. This is stuff from a Hollywood disaster movie. Prayers and thoughts up to all affected.

But investigators still don't know what caused the blast Thursday night,

If there was no external disturbance (digging), and gas was leaking from the pipe, it could have been caused by Eddy currents flowing in the ground causing corrosion and break in the pipeline and eventually causing spark to ignite the mixture and explode. Water lines are also prone to corrosion/erosion by Eddy currents, with less "spectacular" effect.
