A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.

Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.

"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

Now, in San Angelo, we know how a real man is to behave.

How is that? To accept whatever nonsensical spew falls out of your mouth?

I hunt in Menard, not far from San Angelo. We don't allow any dog-hating chicks at the deer camp.

And folks who tell us how we ought to "behave" don't fare well.

My God...is this thread *still* going?

There’s a fine line between “determined” and “deranged”.

Think I’ll just stay over here on the sane side of it, if nobody minds...;)

So are you willing to admit that your statement:

This will piss off the Animal wackos, but NEVER, Never, never, never, never, adopt an adult dog.

Is complete and utter crap and that you were wrong?

Until then all you are doing is backing up.

Me I'm gonna ride down to the river and see how it looks.

Then I'll put on some heavy tunes and grill up some deer sausage.

Might even encourage the Big Red Dog to attack folks.

He never listens.

The folks down the lane have 2 JRTs.

One is a doll and the other a demon.

In this rare photo, Salamander shows her expertise in raising an unusually large specimen of one of the lesser "ankle-biter" breeds of dogs:

Well, I ain’t a dog hater. If you would read and not buy into a certain cretin’s selfish propaganda, you’d know this.

Also, I am a show dog 4H Blue Ribbon Champion.

And a gentleman doesn’t need to be told how to behave. A gentleman also knows this. It is Gentlemen who display said qualities, when they restrain a fellow, from conduct unbecoming.

Menard huh? So, I betcha been to the Annual Kimble County Wild Game Dinner then! I have two chefs hats!!

= )

According to the AVMA: “half of all bites are inflicted by the family dog. Only about 10% of bites are inflicted by dogs unknown to the victim.” The AVMA continues, stating, “Dog bite injuries rank third only to bicycle and baseball/softball injuries as a leading cause of emergency admission of children to hospitals.”

The vast majority of dogs join human families as young puppies. In addition, well run shelters have a vested interest in not adopting out dogs with known red flags to families with kids. Dogs are evaluated for possession guarding, extreme fearfulness and for dominance behavior, to name just a few categories, before ever being presented for adoption. This is done to all adult dogs. Obviously, there is no way to prevent 100% of dog bites, but I will stand by the fact that since most dogs are acquired by people as young pups, those persons who adopt screened shelter dogs are not in extreme danger of having their kiddies eaten.

If we must continue to rely on statistics, I think we must eliminate all childhood baseball/softball and bicycle exposure to make sure nobody is hurt in the road to adult status. Think of the healthcare savings!

Thank you... It’s good to give a dog a home but you need to know what you’re doing. We got a daschund/basset hound mix from the shelter. We returned her 3 days later as she did a couple of things that concerned me... My daughter was around 3 at the time...

I would have dumped those, what I perceive to be people with no class, decency or civility, long ago. Life's too short to waste on people that rude. I'd have had nothing to do wtih them.
As soon as a so-called "freeper" starts in on saying your opinions are worthless (which if your opinions truly were worthless to him I don't see why he kept promoting dicussion) and the insults start flying; discussion should end. They can't debate like grown ups, they don't deserve your grown up debate. These aren't people who comprehend debate on freerepublic.
