"Ben Hur Costume Prop Closes At $1,525 An original prop studded vest worn in the production of the Chariot Race scene in Ben Hur featuring Charlton Heston received 27 bids before closing at $1,525. Included with the prop was the auction catalogue from the May 1970 auction in which the leather vest was originally sold.

$1,525 for the Ben Hur studded leather vest? An outrage! There's a vendor who sells vests just like it for only $600 at the Castro Street Festival in San Francisco each year.

And his comes with oh-so-stylish fringe. And they're made of the softest, most comfortable black leather.

Umm . . . not that I've been to the Casto Street Festival and priced that particular any vests. Or tried anything on.

I think I must have read about it or something. Yeah, I read about it.
