I have a hard time believing that all of the pro-Terry Jones/Fred Phelps talk is because people are suddenly standing up for the First Amendment.

In the last so many years we have had “Piss Christ,” Snead O’Connor tearing up a picture of the Pope on TV, Yoko Ono ripping a Bible in half on stage and Seinfeld’s Larry David pissing on the Bible.

I would like to see how many people around here chose to vehemently defend the First Amendment rights of those people in the same way they do the two “preachers.”

I may criticize what these people do as is my right, but I would never express the view that they don’t have the right to freely express themselves.

And I don’t like it when people half way around the world suggest we do just that.
