The reason I chose the top of the line iMac is that to my knowledge, no one makes a comparable computer to it. They are literally the only one competing in the 27 in all in one market. They cannot be overpriced for it because there is nothing to compare it to. The last time I asked someone to tell me how much it should cost, they built one at new egg that I believe was $600 cheaper. Once the transition from tower to all in one and self-built to manufacturer is accounted for, I don’t think it would have been dramatically different. Especially if the comparison is say Sony who also tends to have higher margins.
Unique form factors, to me at least, make direct comparisons difficult. In the one work station space where they are similar, I think they come out as comparable if not cheaper.
