The good news: The lunatic minister in Florida has been persuaded (or threatened) into not burning the Koran. Book burning is despicable, cowardly and un-American.

He's no more a lunatic than Andy Warhol was. He's a promoter extraordinaire, with an excellent sense of theater.

There is nothing wrong with burning books, any more than there is with burning newspapers, wood, logs, or leaves. Matter isn't sacred.

When America elected that pig whoremonger draft dodger piece of human excrement bill clinton for a second term as president, I always had a sneaking suspicion we were finished. Unless there’s some cataclysmic epiphany, I don’t see anything changing.

Has the world gone mad?

Yes. And it appears at this moment that the bullies have cowered it into a corner.

However, I expect koran burning to become the new American tradition on 9/11.

Guess what? At this point it doesn’t matter whether the Pastor backs down or not, and the Muslim world is going to find that out. They’ve exposed their hypocrisy to the world by making these threats of violence in response to the threat of book burning. It’s now inevitable, even if the Pastor doesn’t burn a Koran, that some Americans will burn one on that day, and some will videotape it and post it on Youtube. Knowing the media, it’s also probably inevitable that once the videos starts getting millions of hits, they will publicize it and Muslims will go nuts anyways.

For good or bad, the Pastor has set into motion events that are going to play out.

Correction.

FBI agents visit intimidate Florida church over Quran burn

I think C.S. Lewis put it best:

"Enemy-occupied territory---that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us to take part in a great campaign of sabotage."

Islam comes off as a spoiled little boy who always gets to have his way with this latest public spectacle. The fact is, we are allied with Muslims in our current wars as much as we are fighting them. Its not good political or strategic sense to piss off our allies in order to insult our enemies, who in fact, are both muslim.

That said, we should discipline the spoiled little boy and demand that he grow up and give respect if wants to get it. That means move the gz mosque and stop defiling christian and jewish symbols and literature. And that also goes for the spoiled little boy’s bratty psychotic sister, the american left.

The government has no excuse, but the media has legitimate reasons to be afraid of Islamic extremists. They know the authorities aren’t interested in defending them.

Burning them is the way Muslims dispose of their Korans, so I doubt it would offend the vast majority of Muslims.

Would anyone believe, in the days immediately following 9/11, there would come a time in this country, when radical, lunatic Muslims would dictate to the American people and its government, that certain forms of protest would not tolerated- and the President of the United States, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, and an American general would meekly acquiesce.

You have captured my thinking on this extremely well. While I think the koran burning would have caused headaches we don't need, still I bristle at the idea that a bunch of primitive ignorant savages can tell Americans what to do. And even more, being backed up by pusillanimous and spineless public whores.

I heard a local talk show host today play Petreaus's propitiatory comments and then the speech by George Patton( which he really gave) that was presented in the movie.

He had spoken before about his own father serving under Patton, so I believe him when he said what his father told him after hearing a speech from Patton: the troops would have gone into battle without weapons. That's American leadership.

We don't have a dog in the white house, we have dog crap. Same-same at State and Defense and the rest of the quagmire known as DC.

Your post makes no sense. This kook pastor had every right to burn his own Korans if he bought them.

Comparing this to government imposed book burning is ridiculous and has no merit.

Either you are for our Constitutional rights or you are not.

It is that easy.
