Okay, I don’t get it....why is Craig’s list such a target when you can pick up any newspaper, especially the local town give aways, let alone the phone book (at least here in Vegas anyway) such a target?

Probably craigslist was happy to have an excuse to shut this category down anyway. Almost all the ads were fakes or inducements to fraud, and this category was always extremely troublesome for craigslist to police. Additionally, abuse of this category is what has prompted most of the more draconian rules changes that craigslist has been forced to institute during the last year or so. Craigslist will be a better place without this category.
