SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A Sacramento restaurant agreed to stop serving live shrimp after an animal-rights group said the practice was cruel to the shellfish.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the restaurant, Nishiki Sushi, suggested squeezing lemon juice on the shrimps' exposed flesh so they would writhe as they were eaten. The dish is commonly referred to as "dancing shrimp" and is considered a delicacy in Japan.
PETA contacted the restaurant after receiving dozens of complaints about the practice.

Belonging to PETA should be a death penalty!
Horrible! Why do people want to torture their food?

People eat those things live? Im no PETA nut, but I dont believe any animal should be made to suffer. Kill it fast then cook it and eat it.

Just to enrage PETA and render them impotent at the same time we could bring back animal sacrifice as a religious ritual.(Some religions do so today-just imagine a “Diverse” religion practicing animal sacrifice, PETA members would go mad!)
I guess I should have sent the tuna tar-tar back because it was raw? NOT! The dish with the 3 sauces (heavenly) was a special gift from the chef, for who I had been a slave, back during my internship. It was great.
You eat your food the way you like it, I'll eat mine the way I like it.

“Torture is for something that is advanced enough to have a spine.”
So, open season on Democrats and RINOs then ? :)
And let me know if you run out of lemon juice, lime juice, or Tabasco(tm). I have plenty. ;)

Wonder if these people ever saw a lobster get cooked in Boston? I guess you should go shoot the lobster first with a 357 ... uh, no wait, no guns there? Well maybe just stomp on them before putting them into the hot water? Where does sanity end and insanity begin for these people?
Unless there’s some legitimate culinary reason for it you kind of have to wonder what’s going on in the head of someone who wants their food to writhe. Kind of like pulling the wings off of flies.
Apparently the creatures have nerves, if not spines, so it’s still torture. I see no point in making my food suffer more than it already has to, but that’s my food, not yours. If they could scream, I suspect there would be a significant decrease in such dining techniques.
Death is a drawn out process (except in the case of nukes), not a single event. As cells die from lack of O2, enzymes are released that change the flavor and texture of the cells.
In beef, given a few months to age at the correct temperature, that's some fine eating.
Some seafood is best eaten alive to achieve maximum potential good taste. Same with insects generally. I would much rather eat a live cricket than one of the canned ones.
Fish eat fish alive and raw. And I doubt they think of torture when they do it.

What the hell are you talking about. They are shrimp? I fish with live shrimp every weekend and don’t think twice about putting a hook anywhere through their body.
