John Adams was our first liberal president and he royally screwed things up when he packed the courts after his loss to Jefferson. He appointed Marbury, of Marbury v. Madison that gave all power to the Supreme Court. I’m sorry if I didn’t answer your question...if not, please reiterate and I’ll try to focus.
Congress passed what was known as the "Midnight Judges" Act which Adams signed and William Marbury was appointed to a five year term as a justice of the peace. I fail to see how this makes Adams a liberal.
