I can't think of anything of an October surprise that would give Democrats a boost. Any back door amnesty would bring a firestorm back lash. Bombing Iran would be seen as another no win war. Extending the Bush tax cuts would seem foolish as the Democrats have portrayed them as only benefiting the rich. Coming up with some new tax cut for people making under $200,000 might be appealing, but in the face of a massive recession would seem contrary to what the Democrats have preached for decades. The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner and there is no escape from the voter's wrath.

Yeah, any independents they might pick up would be counter-balanced by disgusted Libs who wouldn't come out to the polls.
