Oingo Boingo’s Capitalism should be #1:
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you cry
There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask, I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
So tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution, bringing down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby
If it ain’t one thing, then it’s the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone’s brother
I’ve got to tell you, you’re a pain in the ass
You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you
You’re just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And now you tell me that we’ve got to get back
To the struggling masses, whoever they are
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain?
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you cry
There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
So tired of hearing you whine
You’re just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And now you tell me that we’ve got to get back
To the struggling masses, whoever they are
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
Minor Point on number 15: The song “I fought the Law” was recorded by the Crickets after Buddy Holly’s death. The song was later made into a hit by the Bobby Fuller Four and again by the Clash.
My City Was Gone, by The Pretenders. ?
NOPE!
And how come The Nuge has nothing on the list?
I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY PRETTY COUNTRYSIDE
HAD BEEN PAVED DOWN THE MIDDLE
BY A GOVERNMENT THAT HAD NO PRIDE
THE FARMS OF OHIO
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS
AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR
FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS
I prefer “Meet the Monster” by Five Finger Death Punch
“Meet The Monster”
[V1:]
It’s not that complicated and you ain’t gotta believe
They’ll put me down in a hole before I let you succeed
I’ve never been complacent, I can’t afford to be
I know you think you’re special but you ain’t nothin’
[Pre-Chorus:]
Can you read between the lines?
Or are you stuck in black and white?
Hope I’m on the list of people that you hate
It’s time you met the monster that you have helped create
Boo!
[Chorus:]
You’ve pushed me one too many times
I’m sick of all of the fiction, we’re gonna settle it
You’ve pushed me one too many times
I’m sick of all of the shit, I’m gonna settle it!
[V2:]
It’s not that complicated and you ain’t gotta believe
They’ll put me down in a hole before I let you succeed
I’ve never been complacent, I can’t afford to be
I know you think you’re special but you ain’t nothin’
[Pre-Chorus:]
Well there’s nothing you can say to me now
And there’s nothing you can do to stop me
It’s hard not to be a menace to society
When half the population is happy on their knees
[Chorus:]
You’ve pushed me one too many times
I’m sick of all of the fiction, we’re gonna settle it
You’ve pushed me one too many times
I’m sick of all of the shit, I’m here settle it!
[V3:]
‘Cause I can’t take it anymore
I refuse to live this way
It’s not that I don’t care enough, it’s not that I can’t see
It’s everything inside of me that won’t let me be you
It won’t let me be you!
[V4:]
It’s not that complicated and you ain’t gotta believe
They’ll put me down in a hole before I let you succeed
I’ve never been complacent, I can’t afford to be
I know you think you’re special but you ain’t nothin’
No, you ain’t nothin’
And you’ll never succeed
I know you think you’re special,
but you ain’t nothin’
But you ain’t nothin’!
I”ll bite. How is You Oughta Know a “conservative” rock song?
Not surprised that Rush is mentioned twice in the top 50. They are heavily into libertarianism. “Anthem” and “Free Will” are particularly strong examples here. The only drawback (IMO) is the atheistic slant to a lot of their songs.

By soft-rockers Seals & Crofts:
UNBORN CHILD
(lyrics by Lana Bogan; music by James Seals, 1974)
From the album UNBORN CHILD (1974).
Oh little baby, you’ll never cry, nor will you hear a sweet lullabye.
Oh unborn child, if you only knew just what your momma was plannin’ to do.
You’re still a-clingin’ to the tree of life, but soon you’ll be cut off before you get ripe.
Oh unborn child, beginning to grow inside your momma, but you’ll never know.
Oh tiny bud, that grows in the womb, only to be crushed before you can bloom.
Mama stop! Turn around, go back, think it over.
Now stop, turn around, go back, think it over.
Stop, turn around, go back think it over.
Oh no momma, just let it be. You’ll never regret it, just wait and see.
Think of all the great ones who gave everything
That we might have life here, so please bear the pain.
Mama stop! Turn around, go back, think it over.
Now stop, turn around, go back, think it over.
Stop, turn around, go back think it over.

I wish there was a version from the album out there!

Something for Nothing
Something For Nothing lyrics Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
Countless ways
You pass the days
Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Looking for an answer
To the question you have found
Looking for
An open door
You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your own song
You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be
Last night I heard this politician
Talking ‘bout his brand new mission
I Liked his plans, but they came undone when he got around to God and Guns
I don’t know how he grew up
But it sure wasn’t down at the hunting club
Cause if it was he’d understand a little bit more about the working man
God and guns
Keep us strong
That’s what this country
Was founded on
Well we might aswell give up and run
If we let them take our God and guns
I’m here in my back of the woods
Where God is great and guns are good
You really can’t know that much about ‘em
If you think we’re better off without ‘em
Well there was a time we ain’t forgot
You could rest all night with the doors unlocked
But there ain’t nobody safe no more
So you say your prayers and you thank the lord
For that peace maker
In the dresser drawer
God and Guns (God and Guns)
Keep us strong
That’s what this country, lord
Was founded on
Well we might aswell give up and run,
If we let ‘em take our God and guns.
Yea we might aswell give up and run,
If we let ‘em take our God and guns!
Don’t let ‘m take
Don’t you let ‘m take
Don’t let ‘m take
Our God and Guns
