Captain Borodin (Sam Neill) is from New Zealand. Dr. Petrov (Tim Curry) is from Great Britain. Not a REAL Russian in the entire crew of the Red October.
Great movie. One of my faves. Sean Connery, as usual, was great in it.

I had three chins and cankles, stick a cigar in one hand and a glass of brandy in the other coulda passed for kin.
Me too. Thanks God for mothers! Like my mom used to say, everyone loves their monkey - hummmm, I wonder if she was talking about me!

Zardoz is fascinating. John Boorman has always made films that are completely personal and idiosyncratic even when they don’t come off at all.

“hummmm, I wonder if she was talking about me!” Absolutely not! How could you think such a thing? I mean, you can’t possibly think...no, of course not. ;0)

Boorman has a bit of a problem telling a story, but he shoots pretty pictures. My favorite good/bad Boorman effort is "Excaliber". How can you muddle King Arthur? Boorman managed.
I'm sure Sean will agree that it was a mistake to let Boorman's wife do the wardrobe for "Zardoz".

Again, Excalibur is muddled but more interesting than a piece of Pablum like ‘First Knight’ (with Connery!).

That one hurt. A really nice person wouldn’t have brought up “First Knight”. Besides the unforgivable blunder of casting Julia Ormond (p-tewy) as the Queen, every woman able to produce alpha waves would have knocked Richard Gere into the pond to get to Connery. The whole thing was ridiculous.

“”Capt. Vasili Borodin: I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck... maybe even a “recreational vehicle.” And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?
Captain Ramius: I suppose.
Capt. Vasili Borodin: No papers?
Captain Ramius: No papers, state to state.
Capt. Vasili Borodin: Well then, in winter I will live in... Arizona. Actually, I think I will need two wives.
Captain Ramius: Oh, at least. “”
Borodin was my very favorite character in Hunt, and now it makes me sadder than ever to watch it, knowing the road we are traveling. Where will freedom loving people go, if we fall?

It is a shame the author had to go out his way to trash the Real Flemingist James Bond in the article.
