You can't escape it: as I'm typing this post a newscaster just referred to the murky death of a member of the British Secret Intelligence Service as a "James Bond mystery." On Sean Connery's 80th birthday I want to note the vigorous, inspiring post-Bond career he forged with terrific work for legendary directors like John Huston in "The Man Who Would Be King," Brian De Palma in "The Untouchables," Fred Schepisi in "The Russia House," Philip Kaufman in "Rising Sun" and Steven Spielberg in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

Connery was the best Bond by far, and a great actor still.
One of my favorites. Now don’t any of my Freeper friends tell me he’s a flaming liberal donkey. I’m trying my best to seperate Hollywood from politics. They just don’t mix.

The thing I love about Sean Connery is no matter what part he plays, be it a Russian sub captain (Search for Red October) a Muslim Chieftain (The Wind and the Lion) or a Cowboy (Shalako) he always plays the part with a heavy Scottish accent. And pulls it off!!

Connery was great in Hunt for Red October. I can still see him standing in the conning tower as they sailed up Penobscot Bay.

I have to watch it with the sound off. “The Wizard of Oz”? I forgive anything someone named RobRoy says, but come on! Do you watch it high? It must be all the naked girls. Can’t blame you, it is visually stunning, but the whole anti-gun, anti-violence silliness is sooooo 60s.

The Man Who Would Be King is my favorite non-Bond Connery film.

I liked Hunt For Red October.
A Russian with a Scottish accent. Who else could have pulled that off.
But Entrapment was kinda lame. No fault of Connery's.

Yeah...in Highlander he’s a Scot’s burring Spaniard and Lambert is a wimpy French Scot.
Never made any sense to me.
The Kurgan stole the show, especially the hooker scene.

“Of ~course~ you are.”

OMG! I forgot the wedding get-up! Who would have thoughy a man in a diaper, with a braided ponytail, no six-pack and a healthy covering of light fur could be so breathtaking!!!
