I'm gonna get a cz 82 from AIM Surplus. My main concern is what kind of condition it will be in. Has anyone bought from them? Is the 10$ hand select a scam?
A CZ 82 is not a bad firearm. Most companies do well with the hand select offer; it can be worth it. I mean, it’s $10 to up your chances of getting one of the best in the lot. Make sure you stock up on ammo, too.
I have no experience with that company but know that is a good gun, I always pay the extra for hand select unless it is quite a bit more. I have often got ones which were like new by doing that.
The only time I screwed up was buying some Brazilian Mausers. I ordered six, two each of three grades. When the rifles arrived there was no difference in the various grades, and they all were worse than advertised.
AIM is good, you will be happy with either choice.
If you have the $10 spend it for the hand select.
You will never know if you would have received the same item for -$10.
is 9x18 similar to a 380?
It will be a new caliber for line up, but it looks to be pretty cheap.
9x18 is between 380 and 9mm.

While similar to the .380 in size the 9X18 Makarov cartridge is roughly equivalent in power to the .38 spl.
I've pinged another CZ fan so he can chime in.
Read the review of mine which I linked above.
I shouldn’t have clicked on this thread...now I have the itch.
Go with the handpick - AIM will actually send you a better gun (compared to some of the other surplus dealers).
The CZ-82 is a nice pistol, though my 9x18 is a Polish P64 -smaller, lighter, kicks hard. Fun!
The 82 is one sweet little pocket popper - mine is my primary CWP sidearm now. They are compact, reliable, and in most cases amazingly accurate.
Some fellows claim that their 82 will out shoot their Walther PPK as well as their SIG Saur, which cost a lot more money.
Don’t worry if the barrel looks like a smoothbore or the rifling is all worn out; it has “polygonal” rifling like a Glock so you won’t see any spiral lines of lands and grooves - but it sure works!

To learn a lot more about these nifty little pistols.
For the price, they may be one of our top handgun bargains right now.
I have a “Curio & Relic” FFL so have accounts with several Importers and Dealers. By and large, AIM http://www.aimsurplus.com/ is my favorite, with Century coming in a close second. If you ever have a problem with an AIM product they will make it square with you right away, and they are super nice people to work with.
When I got my 82 both Century and AIM were sold out, so I got it from http://www.southernohiogun.com/ and have no complaints at all.
The left grip panel has a stupid “thumb rest” on it that gets in the way of the magazine release button, so I ground it off. You also can get replacement grips which I would recommend.
The CZ-82 is C&R certified by the way, so if you have a C&R you can have one (or more) delivered to your door.
If you send a signed copy of your FFL to the various Wholesalers / Importers, they will put it on file for future purchases and also put you on their mailing list to receive neat catalogs and sale fliers listing all sorts of jiffy guns and dealer prices. You can also get access to their “Dealer only” parts of their web sites.
The Tokarev isn’t as good a CWP pistol as the 82 IMHO, but they are quite powerful for their size and a lot of fun to shoot, and would make a decent woods or camping gun. Some of them can be had for under or around $200 on a C&R too.
The felt recoil of the CZ mdl-82
is the lowest of any of the makarov pistols.I have two of them; excellent pistol.
12 rounds in the magazine an one in the pipe cocked and locked.
Hornady 9x18 mak 95 gr JHP/XTP for carry.
I got one a couple years ago and it’s fantastic. The double action trigger pull is the best of any pistol I’ve ever owned. The only thing I will say about it is that it’s coated in the very best black paint the Czech Republic has to offer...not like a traditional blued finish. It’s the best of the 9x18 pistols.
The Czechs would most likely say that was the Slovak contribution to the manufacturing process. The reason these sweet little shooters are on the C&R list is that they were made in a Nation which no longer exists, to whit: Czechoslovakia.

Everything that CZ has made is excellent IMHO. I have a CZ-75 in 9mm and two CZ-52’s in 7.62x25. CZ also makes excellent Mauser-type rifles. All of the CZ products I have had experience with are basic, no-frills reliable firearms. Unless you get a piece of crap that someone has beat up, any CZ is a good choice.
