You got to give it to them guys, going after gator armed with a little Remington .22 speed rifle (though they say that's all you need). When this old Cajun goes fishing in Lake Verret and down 4 Mile bayou to Grassy lake he's carrying a .44 Redhawk with a 30-30 lever Winchester in the rod box as back up.
Lots of oilfield canals and natural bayous to fish.
You can find even more remote and wilder places (my primary choice) south of the Intracoastal waterway from south of Houma all the way up to Morgan City, excellent fishing especially bass. Frogging is usually pretty good once you get way, way in the back (as we say) ;^)
