"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

A clever story with several twists. Stone Cross, a village in Devon, southwest England, is the home of old, invalided, wheel chair ridden Mrs. Wentworth who moved there from London. Dr. Brooks, who gives her massages for her heart condition, is one of her few acquaintances. Mrs. Wentworth is not satisfied with Dr. Brooks' cure and threatens to cut him out of her will. Olive is her maid. Mrs. Lynn, the vicker's wife, is her only other acquaintance and Mrs. Lynn has just been murdered by strangulation. Just as Mrs. Wentworth is listening to the BBC's report on the murder and a description of the killer a storm interrupts the broadcast. Olive wants to leave, and Mrs. Wentworth begs her to stay and then threatens to disinherit her if she does leave. Olive leaves. Soon, a man sneaks into her house. Mrs. Wentworth attempts to make phone calls but with no success. The man is George, Olive's husband and Mrs. Wentworth's gardener and formerly the vickery gardener. After first winning over her confidence, George then makes threatening moves toward Mrs. Wentworth. She gets up and runs toward the cottage. In the cottage is Dr. Brooks and Olive. It was a strategy to prove to Mrs. Wentworth that she needn't be wheel chair bound, that she can walk and there is nothing at all wrong with her. Mrs. Wentworth is angry and orders everyone out. As they are about to leave the police constable and Scotland Yard show up. They arrest George for the murder of the vicker's wife. Mrs. Wentworth dies of fright. The police arrest the doctor too, although he was innocent. He did not know that George really was the strangler. However, because he inherited a tidy sum from Mrs. Wentworth he was found guilty by a jury.
