In other words, the welfare system as it existed was being exploited by immigrants to the point of eventually bankrupting the government.I met a Dane who said that it was much easier for immigrants to get government housing than low income Danes. A lot of these immigrant find out quickly that the govenment will put a roof over their head and money in their hands. They stay on welfare and if they do work, it is off the books for cash.
