And if they were to remain lawful so would I. But they don't, which means they don't deserve support from anyone until they do.
:P
I think you are new to these threads. I have said over and over that Paul Watson is going to get someone killed out of his insane narcicissm. Personally, I don't conisder stink bombs terrorism.
In Season 2 the Japanese threw nuts, bolts, golf balls. Used an acoustic device on a helicopter pilot which could have caused him to crash.
And as far as colliding goes every sea faring expert has stated clearly that BOTH parties are at fault.
I do not support Sea Shepherd, but the Japanese commercial whalers are not the innocent victims you make them out to be. The only victims are the dead whales.
I’m as open-minded as anyone and worry about their tactics. I would think it would be pointed out what their illegalities our. Haven’t heard of any yet.
All I've seen is slingshots and a spud gun. These guys are not packing any heat. Meanwhile, the Japanase are using military grade equipment (LRAD) and have truely endangered lives with it.
I am 110% anti whaling and would love to see all the Japanese whaling vessels sunk, however I think Watson is a fool and dangerous to his crew!
The only ones I care about are the whales. Japan is wrong, and Watson is wrong.
I think we can all agree on that.
There are many anti-whaling FReepers but we don't need to fight amongst ourselves. The hippies are entertainment. But my favorite thing about Whale Wars is it takes my mind off Obama, mosques, terrorists trying to kill us, ect... I do find myself cheering for SS sometimes, I will admit that.
But that doesn't mean I support SS and Watson. I just think the Japanese are liars and are violating a treaty they willingly signed.
The problem is there are too many folks who see everything as in one way or another and are not willing to compromise. I don't like the Japanese or Sea Shepherd but I love whales. Where does that put me? Who the F knows. But I do know that almost 95% of the FReepers who post on these threads are genuinely great people with good hearts.
You should get informed on a subject before you elect to jump into a debate on it. Pete Buffoon brought a bow and arrow onboard the Irwin and was armed with a knife when he illegally boarded the Japanese ship. The knife was the reason he was found guilty of assault, one of the five charges on which he was convicted but the only charge to which he did not plead guilty.
Meanwhile, the Japanase are using military grade equipment (LRAD) and have truely endangered lives with it.
You really are uninformed. The LRAD is a non-lethal weapon and was even used against protesters at the G20 Summit in Pittsburg in 2009; not a single person died. It does, however, have the potential to cause auditory damage. The Japanese only use it only when confronted/approached/terrorized by the hippie terrorists and if said hippie terrorists were to refrain from confronting/approaching/terrorizing the Japanese ships they would face no danger of auditory damage. Additionally, the hippie terrorists have an LRAD of their own that they use as an offensive weapon and not in defense as have the Japanese. Now do yourself a favor and research what it is you want to say before responding.
Somehow the addition of Michelle Rodrigues may actually increase the average IQ on their ships, assuming she doesn’t jump ship when they break down and return to port like half of the crew did.
So, pointing it at a helicopter is okay in your book?
So, pointing it at a helicopter is okay in your book?
You are aware that the LRAD has never caused damage or injury to the helicopter and/or its pilot, aren’t you? Given that, yes, it is “okay” in my book.
What galls me the most about this is the these f'ing governments yoke us with law after law, figure out ways to tax us to death and then go about ignoring the laws that are inconvenient to them.
These whaling laws are no different than immigration laws in this country. Some of us actually care about law & order but those in charge feed us crap sandwiches and laugh at us.
Yes, Sea Shephard does things I find to be problematic and they should be punished when crossing the line. The same should be said about the Japanese who care more about making a buck and could give two craps about hunting species into extinction.
The attitude of calling Sea Shephard hippies and terrorists is ignorant in my opinion.
Sometimes, you have to cross the line to stop an injustice. It's that attitude that spawned the Minuteman and the founders of this country who were trying to throw off the oppressive Brits.
Terrorists? Do tell how these 'hippies' are any different than those in our history who went over the line to do what we know is right.
You say, "Some of us actually care about law & order".
Yet you continue with, "Sometimes, you have to cross the line to stop an injustice."
If you cared about law and order you would not condone the illegal activities of these terrorists.
And they are terrorists, they have even described themselves as such. You can disagree (that would be your opinion) but it is a fact, they are committing terrorist acts.
The bottom line is, we can all disagree with what the Japanese are doing but to break the law to try to stop them is wrong. Fight it in the courts.
If those that agree to and pass the laws don't respect them, should we?
For those jerks to paint research on the sides of their ships is like Al Queada calling themselves a community outreach program. Disgusting bunch of liars.
I'm as opposed to whaling as anyone. But I want it stopped through legal means, not by the illegal actions of Admiral Jackass and his crew. Have you considered that the men on the Japanese ships are just fishermen trying to feed their families? Contrast that to the volunteer terrorists you defend.
I've asked you to research this issue. It's clear you never have. The Japanese are not breaking the law. You may not like it but their research is 100% legal.
Article VIII of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW), the Contracting Parties have an unrestricted right to take whales for scientific research. Japan is a signatory to this Convention.
Again, you may not like the taking of whales for research. But stopping it should result from legal means, not terrorist activity.
Yeah, I'm real sure there's alot of research going on there. But, maybe I'm wrong. After watching how quickly they're butchered, I can only imagine the following research conclusions:
1.) A nice Merlot is best served with Humpback meat
2.) The best cooking temperature for whale is 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
3.) Whale penis can be sold for $100 an ounce for an aphrodesiac
In the end, they can't be trusted. Who's counting the whales they take? The type of whales they take? The fact they are whaling in a whale sanctuary without regard. The fact they are overtly exploiting the 'research' loophole in the IWC.
I love the press releases they put out after steering into other vessels. Priceless set of lies.
Sea Shepherd does controvert the law, so do the Japanese.
When the commercial whaling moratorium was introduced in 1982, the main reason the anti-whaling nations gave for its introduction was the uncertainty surrounding the scientific data then available. In other words, they argued that safe management of whales was not possible because knowledge of the number of whales, age composition, sex ratio, and natural mortality rate was ambiguous. The research by Japan was launched to answer such questions and resolve the uncertainties.
Many members of the IWC Scientific Committee recognize the importance of the research, and value highly their results.
In the end, they can't be trusted.
Probably not. But in the end the 'research' should end by legal means not by the actions of terrorists.
I love the press releases they put out after steering into other vessels. Priceless set of lies.
You're delusional. I've owned a boat of some sort for most of my adult life. I know what prop wash is and what it looks like. Caption Buffoon's boat was driven into the Japanese ship and the prop wash (as clearly seen on the video) is evidence. I've also seen Admiral Jackass seek out the Japanese, captain his boat to them then drive his ship close enough to cause contact. He keeps a distance and it never occurs.
And speaking of lies...the lies told by the hippie terrorists are classic. Caption Lardass was shot? BS. I saw that episode. There was no evidence at all that he was shot but tons of evidence the entire episode was staged. Moreover, who ILLEGALLY boards another's ship then claims they were kidnapped? Season 1, Benjamin Potts and another hippie dumbass ILLEGALLY board a Japanese ship and Captain Jackass immediately calls the media to report they have been kidnapped. Do you really buy that shit?
Sea Shepherd does controvert the law, so do the Japanese.
Admiral Jackass and his terrorist crew break the law in every episiode and one of his minions was recently convicted of his crimes to prove it. And, as I've already proven, the Japanese are not breaking the law. You've made that claim many times and I've proved you wrong every time. Maintaining that poisition in the face of clear evidence to the contrary doesn't bode well for your intellectual honesty or your credibility. But that decision is yours.
1.) It is clear that Japan is violating several laws enough so that the Australian government has taken action. Also, the recent information regarding bribing nations for their votes shows they have little regarding to acting above board.
2.) As far as 'research' is concerned, a quick search shows items like Japan paying off a UK university as well as faulty 'research' as shown in the Molecular Ecology report by scientists at Stanford and Oregon State universities
Caption Buffoon's boat was driven into the Japanese ship and the prop wash (as clearly seen on the video)
Really? That boat turned into the Ady Gil. Prop wash. C'mon.
minions was recently convicted of his crimes to prove it
I've already said that those violating the law, including the Japanese, should be held accountable. Finally, there is no need for insults.
I couldn't help but notice you cited no such laws or links to any information to support your position. Conversely, I can, have and will.
One activist judge in Australia ruled the whaling is illegal under Australian environmental law. His findings were based solely on his determination that the Southern Ocean is a sanctuary governed by Australia. His position is not enforcable as spelled out in the paper below:
Expanding jurisdiction this dramatically is clearly inconsistent with uniform past Australian practice to not to enforce Australian laws against non-nationals in Antarctica and the argument here is that the contentious and almost entirely unrecognized exercise of jurisdiction within the ATS over non-nationals in waters adjacent to Antarctica for the purpose of regulating whaling is unsound.
To further address your claim that the Japanese are breaking the law:
The ban on commercial whaling was agreed by the IWC in 1982, and finally implemented four years later. But two IWC members continue to kill whales - Japan for what it calls "scientific research", and Norway because it does not accept the moratorium.
Under IWC rules both are legally entitled to their catches, though most members disapprove strongly.
You do comprehend the meaning of the term, legally entitled, dont you?
As far as 'research' is concerned, a quick search shows items like Japan paying off a UK university as well as faulty 'research' as shown in the Molecular Ecology report by scientists at Stanford and Oregon State universities
A quick search you say, yet you provided nothing.
It is an incontrovertible FACT that the Japanese can LEGALLY take the whales they do. There is no need to pay off anyone though that sort of thing probably happens to buy support if for no other reason than to sway public opinion.
Really? That boat turned into the Ady Gil. Prop wash. C'mon.
Cmon what ignore the prop wash that is clear evidence Captain Buffoon powered his boat into the Japanese? I dont think so.
You CANNOT ignore the prop wash; it is a clear indicator that Captain Buffoon caused the collision. Watch this video paying close attention to the water directly behind the Ady Gil and you will see Buffon hit the throttle causing his boat to enter the path of the larger vessel. Allow me to repeat; this cannot be ignored as throttling the Ady Gil caused it to lunge forward and into the path of the Japanese vessel.
So lets review:
1. The Japanese are breaking no laws as they are permitted LEGALLY to take the whales they do. I proved this with a link that states specifically they are "legally entitled" to take whales.
2. The hippie terrorists (or whatever you want to call them) are confronting the Japanese whalers who are LEGALLY whaling and said confrontations are risking lives of all involved. This is provable just by watching the show and/or the video at the link I provided.
3. The Ady Gil lies at the bottom of the ocean because its captain hit his throttle as the Japanese ship passed and that caused the collision. This I have proved as the prop wash, clearly seen in the video is a an undeniable indicator Captain Buffoon powered his boat into the path of the larger vessel.
I have entertained your thoughts and disproved them each and every one using fact and evidence. So I ask that you please come up with something new and/or substantial that you think disproves these facts I have laid before you. Otherwise, this is a waste of time.
Cheers.
