On another planet, it sounds like Steven Slater and I could have been friends.

He likes swearing, beer and rubber slides. Me, too!

But Slater is an airline attendant, or steward, or whatever

Cathal Kelly sounds like a self-entitled jerk. I have no sympathy for passengers who think that they are so special that the rules that I and everyone else on the plane follow don’t apply to them. Yes I have had one of those people who popped up early to grab their bag drop it on my head when the plane took a sudden lurch. I too used to snicker at the line “in the unlikely event of a water landing” until a pilot landed a plane on the Hudson River and the flight attendants got everyone out safely. Cathal Kelly is exactly the kind of passenger that makes the flight attendants so pissed off all the time.

Obviously, Slater is a drama queen who should have just exited the plane in the normal way and resigned. It gives me no confidence that he escaped the airport and made it all the way home before they caught him.

If Amrtak is so great, why is it that the American tax payer must subsidize each passenger at a rate of $100.00 per trip?

Was. He knew that his career in that industry was over when he left.

That’s exactly it! It is why traveling via train is so much calmer. You get on the train. There are no safety rules

What could possibly go wrong?

I am still waiting on your answers, links and replies to my beginning questions and especially the last two questions to you that I posted in the last part in post #36.
If you can’t be civil enough to at least attempt to reply to a post directed to you

Frankly, I was being civil by deliberately ignoring the trashy and vulgar graphics that you posted in your reply #36.

If you disagree, then go ahead and pound the abuse button and whine to the moderator. Just don't expect ME to respond to your offensive crap.

And you can even get a baggage man to take your bags to the train and you get let on earlier before all the other passengers. Just sayin’ that Amtrak has a bit over on the airlines when it comes to convenience.

There was a time when my vacation began when I got to the airport.

That was a long, long time ago.

Anyone who has to deal with members of the public as a company wage slave will tell you that dealing with members of the public can be stressful, particularly when having to maintain your cool at the risk of losing your job when said customers are being complete a’holes, as I’m sure is often the case with airline passengers...

****************************

You're right. "Flight attendants" are slaves! No one should take that job. It's a crime!

And since neither of those articles were about building an Amtrak link from Hawaii to California, my point still stands.

>I simply got fed up with

Haven’t gotten fed up with the government forcing the people who do not use public transit to subsidize the people that do?

No?

Imagine the price of a rail ticket if the taxpayers weren’t robbed to keep it operating.

If you want to reduce dependence then drill drill drill.
We actually have more oil and natural gas right here than we even need.

I am sure the If the tax payers subsidized
each airline ticket I bought for $100.00 that I would get much better service.

No, domestic production of oil peaked over 35 years ago. The amount of conventional oil reserves is really quite meager. What we do have is vast quantities of low grade unconventional oil sources that are much more difficult/expensive to extract.

You have just showed everyone on FR that you can’t back up your facts with your Alinsky antics, and won’t answer the last 2 questions in the post.

Sorry. You’re not going to change my mind. Not even your childish name calling. I love to travel on Amtrak and have not had one bad experience. Once, though, we had to stop and wait for a cow or branch or something to get off the track.

Oh, and you don’t get it. It’s not about ‘much better service’. There is no service on the train. None. You get on the train and you’re left alone. When I fly, first class, the service is remarkable. Free drinks and movies. Its great.
