The drought is over - Alex Rodriguez finally hit his 600th home run.
More than two weeks after A-Rod cracked his last homer, the Yankee slugger socked a pitch by Shaun Marcum of the Toronto Blue Jays in the first inning of Wednesday's game into the center field of Yankee Stadium - and into history.
A big grin creasing his face as he circled the bases, Rodriguez got a standing ovation from the fans and big hugs from his teammates.
Yankee fans shared in Rodriguez' joy.
"It's well deserved," said Joel Garcia, 20, of The Bronx. "He's such a good player."
Rodriguez is just the seventh major leaguer to reach that home run milestone. And it was clear evidence that the power stroke that had been practically invisible since July 22, when Rodriguez hit his 599th home run, was back with a vengeance.
Before Rodriguez hit his rocket, Yankee fans shared their theories about why it had taken the third baseman so long to deliver the much-anticipated dinger.
"He's struggling because they're pitching him hard," said Dushon Portorreal, 20, of the Bronx, who works at "Stan's Sports World" on River Ave. in the shadow of Yankee Stadium.

LOL
Now that he got to 600, tell him to go after Willy Mays’ record for an encore.
Harman Killebrew would have had 900 HRs if he had been on steroids.
Babe Ruth would have gotten 1000, if only he had cut down on the smoking, the drinking, and the sex, especially between innings.
Ted Williams hit 521 homeruns despite missing 4 1/2 seasons in the prime of his career for military service during WWII and the Korean War.
He would have come close to Babe Ruth’s record of 714.
Babe would have knocked rod’s teeth down his throat... Babe would have no part of these so called players of today. Babe was a real alpha male... the money was not why he played the game... but he liked what it did for him.
Babe once said, “Money cannot buy love... but it will buy something so close that you can’t tell the difference”.

Yep, I would have loved to see what Ty Cobb would have done to this guy.
Oh man... I never thought about that... yep... that would be worth the price of admission!

Wily Mo Pena?
I thought the name was a mistake.
