It is not the “Average Joe’s business” at least if you believe in property rights. We have a willing buyer and willing seller. End of story.

Yeah--someone paid money for that site, no one can have an opinion on the building of a mosque dedicated to an existential threat to the nation.

Having an opinion about the area near the deadliest attack on civilians in our history--how silly!

Just because someone bought the land doesn't mean we little people can't dare question the activities of our monied betters.

Let me see if I can help you understand what is at issue here.

No one is saying they cannot build a mosque in NYC, only that they cannot do it anywhere close to "Ground Zero." Just because that mosque being built so close to Ground Zero does not mean anything to you, does not mean terrorists feel the same as you. For them any symbolism is a victory. Look at how they report Israel's departure from Lebanon or Gaza. A pull out is reported as a victory for those who hate Israel. So it will be reported in those countries that Islam was victorious and that they have now built a mosque on the site to celebrate that victory.

Those of you who, like Capt Kirk, think we are wrong need to take off your blinders and look at the real world for a change. The people in the "3rd World" have no clue nor access to a way of obtaining a clue so all they have to go by is what they hear or read in their media. They are ignorant and kept that way to ensure they never learn the truth.

Incidentally, once the mosque is finished, you can expect the Muslim population to go up dramatically in that area.

A willing buyer and willing seller are not the end of the story in most communities that have zoning laws. For instance, most towns will not allow a porn palace to open up next to an elementary school. So most of the time, some thought is given as to whether a new building (or new use of an old building) is appropriate in its proposed site.

Now, if you are a Wild West Libertarian and think that there should be NO zoning anywhere, anytime, that is your privilege. Enjoy the 24/7 truck stop that is built right next to your house.
