SQUAMISH, British Columbia- An extreme jumper was rescued after being stuck in an extreme location on a Canadian mountain Monday, authorities said.
The stranded BASE jumper was spotted stranded on Stawamus Chief Mountain, a popular British Columbia venue for the risky activity, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
BASE stands for the four types of extreme jumping locations: buildings, antennae, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs).
Rescuers reached the parachutist, who was safe, but stuck on the rock face, after parachuting from the peak of the mountain, Vancouver's CKWX reported.
John Willcox of Squamish Search and Rescue told CKWX the man was not hurt when he got caught in a tree. Willcox said the man lowered himself into a "technical area" where he could not get free on his own.
A Royal Canadian Mounted Police helicopter flew nearby and its crew talked to the man, who signaled he was OK by flashing two thumbs up.
It's the second incident on the mountain in recent weeks, the CBC said. On July 14, rescue crews rappelled down the mountain to rescue another stranded BASE jumper, who sprained an ankle.
I hope he is charged the full cost of the rescue! If it had been up to me, I would have been tempted to leave him up there.
Squamish has a well-earned rep for great air.
It sounds pretty heartless, but the point is that if you are going to engage in extremely dangerous behaviors you should do so with the understanding that the risks you are taking are your own and that society as a whole has no obligation to bail you out if things do not work out.
A Navy SEAL recently died jumping off a cell phone tower in Virginia.
Rescued? Why?
Now I would rather try and climb that than jump off it.

(AP) - Police in Suffolk say a 30-year-old Navy SEAL is the victim of a deadly daredevil jump from a 1,000-foot cell phone tower in that southeastern Virginia locality.
The identity of Friday’s jump victim has not been released. A jumping partner, also a Navy SEAL, was charged with trespassing.
