I love WF’s and if I have a choice would much rather fill my shopping cart with their meats, produce and seafood, dairy products, plus specialty items not available at other grocers.

While hubby isn’t “happy” about the bill, he takes great pleasure in wearing one of his Conservative t-shirts while walking through the aisles of a WH’s. Not once has anyone made a negative comment, although he keeps trying!

The majority of my vegetables are grown in containers; and you wouldn’t believe how much can be grown in a small space. One Earth Box (roughly 12 x 30 inches) produces a staggering amount of tomatoes...’urban gardening’ is catching on with a lot of people in the cities, as well...people are even using containers on rooftops. There is a LOT of ‘innovating’ going on...

I’d never pass up Trader Joe’s for Whole Foods.

I have found the Whole Food crowd to be very aggressive, very self-righteous.

My only experience with them has been in the Boston/Cambridge area. The poor things only have the Boston Globe to read and WBUR on the radio.

Come to think of it; there is a gentleman in downtown Pasadena who turned his 1/10 acre back yard (that’s pretty small) into a garden that produces SIX THOUSAND pounds of vegetables every year...that should take care of the largest families. :-)

“Trader Joe’s also attracts sandal footed libs.”

Shhh... don’t tell them it is owned by hard working, frugal and devout Catholics from Germany. The Albrecht family.

Sadly one just passed away - BTW they are probably the wealthiest people in Germany and supposedly treat their employees well.

Yup - let’s be nice to Whole Foods folks cause the CEO is probably one of us.

Ditto Trader Joe’s. Owned by devout German Catholics. Sadly Theo Albrecht just passed away.

Oh and German Catholics generally do not practice that open borders and liberal American Catholcism that sickens me.

The German Catholicism that saved Europe from Islam twice in 1529 and 1683 AD.

I happen to love WFM and I remember this boycott. I shopped there that day, spent a lot of money, more than I would normally spend. There was no lack of customers that day because of the boycott but maybe there was more.

The WFM that I shop in is a small one, a huge one like the one in Austin TX, is planned for my area but I have not heard if my small one will be closed.

That guy with the body piercings probably invented something that you use everyday.

Best laugh I have had today!

From now on when I see someone with a fishhook in their cheek or a tongue stud I am going to ask them what they invented just to see the puzzled look on their face.

I consider their so called food pure crap!

If it isn’t raised with chemical fertalizers after doing a soil analysis for the particular crop and kept pest free with pestides I consider it not fit for human consumption!!

Have you been to WF in Austin Texas? What is special about the one in Boston?

Never been to a Whole Foods in Texas.

What’s special about the Boston area? That’s easy. That area is populated by socialists, anarchists, Marxists, Communists, and crazy people who were red diaper babies. American flags and Christmas trees drive these people crazy.

Think of the biggest liberal you know and imagine sprinkling Miracle Grow on them. When I lived there there were fewer than 1% Republicans in my area. I always registered as an Independent so I wouldn’t get my car damaged. Liberals are very intolerant. Many of them really mean well and have good hearts but they are very misinformed.

Which town? I recently went back to my home town of acton ma. I needed something from the grocery store, so I stopped in with my friend. It’s name changed from triple A to donelan’s... But it should be the same, I said to myself. As my friend and I were walking in, i remember saying to her that acton, unlike concord, was full of grounded people. Self made people... Not pretentious.

Yea... That lasted about 10 feet into the store when I spotted the woman playing the full size harp.

Even idlewylde farms has gone foo-foo (I use to work there in the fields)

Eastern MA is lost to looney ville

I thought you meant something about the store itself, not the people in the area. I can probably say the same thing about Austin Texas but I have only been to the Austin store once. It is HUGE with everything you can imagine for sale in the way of food and specialty foods and hippy clothing.

Your home town is Action, MA?

The best coffee beans in the world come from there. The man who owned Coffee Connection now has Terroir Coffee in Acton. You can order their beans via the net. Very pricey but worth every penny. Of course you’ll need a burr grinder, good filters, spring water...but worth it! IMO their LaMinita beans are the best I’ve ever tasted.

A few years back an MIT student wrote a piece in a school periodical about “Whole Foods”.In this fairly lengthy and very well written piece she took the basic position that shopping there, for most, isn’t as much about “health” as it is about a conspicuous display of affluence. From what I’ve seen I agree with here 1000%.

Stupid essay.
Author is either jealous or a closet Leftist.

Whole Foods is a look into what people can buy for food when they EARN GOOD MONEY. You do well, you can swing thru a WF and come out with aged bison, rabbit, handpicked best quality veggies of interesting varieties, fine cheeses, and other premium foods. If this guy never heard of 90% of what’s in there that’s because he didn’t work hard/smart enough for it.

WF may be favored by Leftists, but it is made possible only by sheer conservative capitalism.

Whiny twit.

Having lived here all my life I can give you a million reasons. But one good example....in the Central Square section of Cambridge (a 10 minute walk from Harvard Square and *very* popular with Harvard types) there's a coffee shop called "The Clear Conscience Cafe" which features signs in the window telling of how well the growers of the coffee beans are paid and how justly and respectfully they're treated.

In short,Boston is a town where many can't even drink a cup of coffee without feeling guilt and shame.
