"James at 15" star filed false documents to get public assistance
James at 15 just got five years' probation.
Lance Kerwin, the 1970s child star who is now a pastor in Hawaii, pleaded guilty to falsifying documents in order to get state medical help and food stamps. Kerwin, who owns three homes on the mainland, apologized and paid $21,822 in restitution, according to thegardenisland.com.
"I'm sorry," said Kerwin, who played the title role on the 1977 NBC series, before being sentenced. "The last thing I want to do is to make a statement to minimize what I have done."
Kerwin, 49, is a pastor at Calvary Chapel in Kapaa. He was also ordered to perform 300 hours of community service.
Kerwin co-owns one of the properties with his brother, and has no control over it, according to his attorney, Craig De Costa. The other property has been foreclosed. Kerwin was receiving rental income from his third property at the time he applied for the benefits, but it was less than the mortgage.

Me too! It was a good show..had a good cast and good story lines. Hate to hear this.
I always wondered what happened to that guy. I remember the TV movie he was in about some olympic medalist as a young man.
Yeah, I loved that show too. I really identified with Kerwin’s character. Had wondered also what became of him. He had a lot of potential and squandered it—very sad.
Yep, he's not perfect. I'll take a pastor with scars any day. They're more like me that way. And a result of the scars is humility. A good fruit of the Spirit.
Actually, he’s seems anything but a typical liberal. He gave up acting for his faith. Of course, pastors need to eat too. Sounds like he fell on hard times and took some short cuts to get by. Very sad.

I have had my revenge, used to look at those 2 twits on the teen mags as I walked by the rack at the grocery store I worked at as a kid, determined that I was going to age better and eventually be better looking.
I remember that show well, especially the episode with Swedish exchange student.
I have never heard of him but the man in the pic looks fine to me.
It was surprising to see an article about him. I had no idea what happened to him and really hate to hear about this; It’s never too late to turn things around though. Good luck to him.

He was also in Enemy Mine with Dennis Quaid, but got killed off early.
