Filling Simon Cowells seat on American Idol was already a tough task - now another chair is there for the taking.
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who became a full-time judge on the show during its ninth season, is bowing out of the series, PEOPLE has learned.
A couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didnt feel like the right fit for me, she says in a statement. I told them I wouldnt leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.
DeGeneres adds, I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.
In the same statement, Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller says, I loved Ellens passion for the artists and her nurturing skills. She brought honesty and optimism to our judging panel and I will miss her greatly.
Peter Rice, the FOX entertainment chairman, says, We love Ellen and understand and support her decision to bow out of Idol. We were fortunate to receive the humor, energy and love for talent that she brought to the show.
A longtime fan of Idol, DeGeneres signed on to replace Paula Abdul after Abdul Tweeted about her departure in August 2009. Im going to have a day job and a night job, DeGeneres said at the time. This is exciting for me.
In January, Cowell announced he was leaving to concentrate on bringing his U.K. hit The X Factor to the U.S. Cynthia Wang
Paula will come back and Bret Michaels will take Simon’s place. IMHO.
Shocked and terribly disappointed. I guess that’s about all I can say.
How we will ever fill the holes in our lives left by this funny, gorgeous, attractive, talented human being?
My Opinion :
Ellen is a smart cookie
shes jumping from the sinking ship.
With Simon Cowell gone and a competing X-Factor in the works,
American Idol will probably go the same way Pop Idol went in Britain.
I think season 10 just might be the last one. Ellen knows it.

Who. Cares. This is the second time this non-story has been posted. Again, who cares?
This thread is only for those who care ( are fans of the show). If this doesn’t interest you, I suggest you ignore it.
The Gong Show without the charm of the gong!
I had decided not too, mostly because of her and their more blatant leftest tilt in recent times.
Leave TV Ellen. Go away.
Hey. I care. Because our Mommy-Dearest just finished up her appearance on "The Spew" and now needs some other TV show to do.
Let's face it: American Idol provided the brain-dead platform for this schmuck to get elected. And Obamalingdong! It's an easy job, too. Just vote down the whiteys! They deserve it because you just know that they're all slave-traders!
You know, I can’t even understand what you are trying to say. Perhaps you have been watching too much third-rate TV and it is destroying your communication skills. Is Ellen Degeneris Mommy-Dearest? And what about slave traders? Is this about how they treat contestants on that show? I have never watched it.
What the hell are you talking about? Thin skinned are we? Don’t like the show, don’t watch it.
Exactly why I have never watched the show or her daytime talk show. She pushed her lifestyle on us and lost me a long time ago.
When Ellen guest judged on SYTYCD, I thought she did a less-than-stellar job (she just kept repeating the same goofy stuff). I didn’t catch her on IDOL because I no longer watch it. I liked Paula actually, and when she left, the show didn’t seem the same.
Hehe....someone actually came at you with the Grammy winner line of attack!
Has anyone seen the Grammys in the last 25 years? A load of pseudo-hipster rubbish that imagines Bruce Springsteen is still cutting edge and added rap as an award category.
But some people are so wrapped up in this overheated, overhyped karaoke contest that they wouldn’t know a real musician if he stood on their front porch. They certainly wouldn’t deign to go support one in a live venue when they can roll over on the couch watch Idol.
“”Ellen is a smart cookie shes jumping from the sinking ship.””
Ellen punched in a number holes in that sinking ship, she was absoutley horrid as a judge.
