I was coming out of a chemically-induced coma after complications following my last triple bypass. I was in terrible pain, and I heard accented English voices behind me. I thought I was being tortured by foreign devils before they sent me down to hell. I was terrified. After a few moments, it penetrated my foggy consciousness that the “foreign devils” were a couple of Filipino male nurses who were trying to pull the tubes out of my throat. They were astonished when my first words were in Tagalog. This took place in Delray Beach, FL.
Saw the movie. Only the kid was having a heart transplant.
That sounds very rough...I once had an umbilical hernia operation with just a local (like a dentist would use). No relaxant, no anesthetics...was a bit rough...but not as bad as yours.
I see that a lot in Surgery...usually a spinal does the trick, but General is always better......the noise of a bone saw can be unnerving.......
I do that during knee replacements....You really do have to hammer the guides in with a mallet...... :)
I began coming to before my dental surgery was completed. The surgeon was sawing four impacted wisdom teeth out of my head and jaw. I remember dreaming about a buzz saw cutting timber, then realized it wasn’t a dream, as I was feeling pain - the buzzing sound was inside my head. I managed a drowsy groan, and the surgeon replied “Don’t worry, I’m almost done!”
lol....
I’d be reluctant to let my dentist do any more colonoscopies on me in the future.
I had FUD about the butt cam. Passed out and woke up when they were done. Whatever they use is some fine drugs.
“Hearing Hindi or Sanskrit wouldnt bug me so much as hearing Spanish, French, or Arabic. Now, if I heard Hebrew I would know this doctor is probably a genius.”
You are a very sane person! Well informed, too.
My wife has the problem that pretty much anything that ends in -caine makes her violently ill, even the tiny amounts in something like ophthalmology eye drops. Fortunately, she can do general anesthetics with no problem.
I woke up during two different surgeries and started struggling on the table. I don’t know if they’re trying to save money on anesthesia or just underestimate how fat I am.
I had a cardiac ablation performed a couple of years back. They didn’t put me out, but gave me something that made me incredibly sleepy. During the next few hours I was awake then sleeping then back to awake. I woke up once during that procedure with a very distinct BURNING in my heart. I mumbled something and the doctor said “better give him a little more, he shouldn’t be feeling this.”
The procedure is, in fact, cauterizing cells inside the heart. Very painful.
I was semi awake during a colonoscopy and told the nurse “I’m cold” when she started wheeling me to the recovery room. She asked how long I had been awake, and I said, “The entire time. I was watching the screen most of the time”. She turned as white as the sheets on the bed.
Happened to me in 1982. I was having a fractured facial orbit wired back together and I woke up. The pain was so excruciating I immediately vomited all over the mask they had on my face. Good thing I did. They cleaned me up and put me back under almost instantly.
