Considering how many new cars are rolled out every year, it's no surprise that a few might be just plain homely. There's a chance that certain styles might become fashionable with a dash of retro hip. (Well, maybe not from the 1970s.)

Which ones qualify for the title of Fugly?
The Honda Element for sure. I always wonder when I see one, what was the selling point?
Not ugly.
It looks like a Smith Brothers Wild Cherry cough drop.
“That, and where was AMCs 74 Matador, it was the ugliest car ever made, and by the same company that made the rightfully recognized as ugly Gremlin and Pacer”
That and the mid/late 80’s Crown Vic that seemed to copy the Matadors ass end

Corvairs were factory turbocharged, modded and raced, even drag raced. If you’re talking ‘65, that’s the first year of the 2nd generation, maybe that would explain your neighbor’s poor experience. But, no, they weren’t junk across the board, and if you were to make a comparison to an aircooled engine from another manufacturer, it wouldn’t be VW. It was a six. Try Porsche.
Actually, in that case I know what they were thinking. They were attempting to copy this look, but in a modern way...

It was a dumb idea tho.

Wow, you're right. They just weren't thinking. They were tracing. 1947 lines on half of a 1980 car. And a semi-crummy car at that.
“I loved mine”
I know someone who has one in mint condition and it is still driven daily. Go figure
This one looks pretty much like the one my mom bought back in ‘65. Then she had it painted orange.
Please tell me it vwasn’t Tennessee Vols Urnge
10-4 on the javelin. I had a 73 until Hurricane Rita laid a tree cross it. A sad end to on of my fav cars, They so;d a lot of them in Venezuela, as I saw about 5 in Punto Fijo back in the early 80’s.

I’m certainly no expert nor great afficionado of Ferraris, but I DO have a nice cocktail-table book on them that I bot at a garage sale. I don’t recall ever seeing those type of big black hood cutouts. If that’s what you’re pointing out. For the most part they had those nice demure oval grill openings, no?
I wish they had brought back the El Camino insead of the Stupid whatever they make now.

My mother had one, too. Pale silver-green.
“I gotta disagree with em on the El Camino”
The saying back when on the El Camino and the Ford Ranchero was “not much of a car, and not much of a truck either”
I have always liked the PT. Wished they made a full sized one.
Reminds me of a D-Series IHC Woody Wagon 1937-39. Saw one on ebay but it needed more work than i needed. Never buy any thing that eats or needs work.

I parked mine along the wall outside Norfolk Naval Shipyard for almost a year and although it got broken into it never was stolen. It was dependable, decent on gas too as a tank would get me almost home {within about 100 miles} to Knoxville 550 miles.
Yep. Kinda funny huh? Makes a regular guy think he’s got better ideas than the “professionals” do.
letsee...I’m thinkin 57chevy tailfins on a smartcar.
LOL
The PT would look really cool as a panel wagon. Haven’t seen one, but I’m sure someone filled in those back side windows and made one. It’s still a chic car though. I wouldn’t drive one without dark tinted windows
Hey, I’m the Geritol crowd (vodka, in my case), and I wouldn’t touch that thing with a pole, no matter how long.
2007 Lincoln MKX
2006 Solstice
2004 T’bird (my favorite)
1977 Fiat 124 Spyder
Skoal!
‘51...and it was great. I had a black convert with red leather interior. Great car.
