“I swear I love that thing. My favorite rifle ever. I used to love shooting my Garand but this thing is just plain beautiful
The M-14/M-1A1 are really just updated Garands.....in fact John Garand was instrumental in their design.
Basically they got rid of the en-bloc clip and replaced it with a larger capacity box magazine, updated the old (and venerable) 30-06 with its modern equivelent the .308 Winchester (7.62 x 51mm) and improved the gas system. I have always loved this rifle since I first fired it in the Marines.....great out of the box accuracy. In boot camp we could not shoot the ones with the fiberglass stocks because the gave an unfair advantage over those shooting rifles with wooden stocks.....
Have you seen the ones built from forged recievers instead of the cast recievers used on the SA and Fulton Armory offerings? a bit pricy at ~$2700 +, but the best available today without getting a TRW reciever example.....(Almost impossible to do).
The M-14 rifle is an infrantryman’s weapon, is being re-issued to selected troops, and needs no apology from anyone as it stands on it’s own merits.
I have seen it and my next .308 will be piston driven AR Bushmaster.
