Although we have a couple of firearms used for hunting Mrs. GBC has decided she needs to get a handgun while the getting is still good.
All other information you get is going to be ancillary.
I love these threads.
.45 acp is my favorite
Details, please. Is Mrs. GBC an experienced shooter? Does she want to carry concealed?
500 replies here we come!
I say Glock or Taurus TCP ;-)
First gun should probably be a simple revolver like a Taurus Ultralight .38
for a woman:
9MM Sig Sauer P23...someting, I forgot
small, lightweight, stopping power at close range
Depending on budget, for the ladies, I always recommend an ultralight .38 revolver. Taurus for low end, Smith and Wesson Lady Smith for the step up.
More information is needed pls. Does she have much experience with guns? Does she prefer an auto pistol or a revolver? Does she intend to carry it?
Take her to the range and have her run a box or two of .22s through it so she won't be afraid of the noise...
I can get a good grouping with my 9mm Ruger, (and carry a huge purse to accommodate it), but most women need something smaller.
No, N/A, Probably...
+1
If there are any shooting ranges around you that rent guns for use on the premesis, that is the BEST way to determine what works for her.
Yup - for a woman a .38 revolver is good. Even grannies in the NRA magazines take out bad guys using .22s.
I no longer have anything to do with Harry Reid’s NRA.
Always a good idea to shoot some different handguns to see what you like.
That being said, a S&W J frame in .38 Special is always a good choice. I'm partial to the Model 638.
I would look at the Springfield XD series and the Smith $ Wesson M&P series. Both come in varying calibers (9mm, .40, and .45) and barrel/grip sizes for optimum concealment and comfort. Women may especially like the M&P series since it comes with three interchangable grip inserts for comfort/control.
Take her to a nice range that offers guns for testing/rent, and have her try a larger framed gun first, like a .45 ACP and a large Colt-style revolver. After that, she will love either a smaller revolver or 9mm semi. Discourage pink as a color choice.
Can they take the LR 22 cartridge?
People say “.22 no stopping power” but I constantly read those stories about how an older person get s abreak in, tells the perp to leave then has to shoot usually with a .22 wheel gun or some other .22. The perps usually die.
Well, if you don't want to come up short in the knockdown department, you might want to try the Austrian Pfeifer-Zeliska in .600 Nitro Express Magnum.
....Oh...and try to get her something that starts with .4* cal. ;)
My wife has had a small glock 9mm for 12 years. She loves it. I don’t know the model number.
