I had forgotten it until I read the post. It was sad. I would take the cartoon made in 70s or early 80s easily.

They made a decent animated movie around 1980. Not on DVD but there's an iffy-quality YouTube.

Some mighty nice old-school rotoscoping animation. They have the animated series on DVD but I much prefer this version.

The cartoon series was from 1979 and it has been released on DVD.
