Your points are well taken. Thank you for that. I believe that the best way to put all of this into perspective is to ask the simple question (the answer to which of course must be speculative), “how many souls were brought to Christ and saved via the mechanism of the film “The Passion of the Christ”?

I submit that when Mel Gibson created that film, he became a target of opportunity for any and every demon that might be passing through his neighborhood. I think that he was moved way up that diabolical “Get That Guy” list that the Devil very likely keeps handy.

None of which excuses his behavior, I’m not suggesting that. But I believe that it can explain some if not all of his behavior from that point forward. Adam was done in by Eve when her disobedience led the both of them into sin, and into separation from Almighty God. In Mel’s case, it was someone named ‘Oksana’.

It is very possible that Mel is in what would be described as a ‘backsliding state’, based on his folly, based on the poor judgments and decisions that he has made. He knows it. Believe me, he knows it. I would stake everything I know on the fact that his soul is in turmoil and torture each and every day over this.

Some people are quick to say “ohhh Mel has ‘fallen from grace’, he’s among the lost now” but only God Himself knows the true spiritual state of Mel Gibson, and I have prayed for him in the past, and I will pray for him now and in the future because he has professed that he believes in Jesus Christ and that he has placed the fate of his soul in Those Hands, and that means I am compelled to pray for him, just as we all should be.

Today, it is Mel Gibson who has slipped and fallen and made a mess of his life, most likely with a lot of demonic encouragement.

Tomorrow, it could be any one of us.

God help us all.

I agree with everything you said, brother. Thank you.

Let’s just agree to pray for this man, who as you note has brought so many to Christ through his work and I’m sure is so tenderly loved by the Lord. Yes, he has backslidden; at times so have we all.
