Alcoholism is a progressive disease but I can’t help thinking Oksana is screwing with Mel’s head. There doesn’t seem to be much context to these......she’s calm as a cucumber on the other end and is likely pushing his buttons. Who knows what she has done to screw with him. My ex used to try to do this to me until she realised that she couldn’t get the reactions from me that she was looking for....sometimes people will push your buttons so they can then point at you and say, “See, it’s him/her! He/She is the crazy one.”

Mel is obviously fueled by booze soaked pain and he would have been smart to calmly extricate himself from this situation. It’s hard but I suppose he loses control and whammo, she’s got him. Not that I am condoning anything that he said and the way he is treating her. There’s a baby involved and that should change everything.

Obviously his behaviour is not acceptable with an infant daughter being involved but Oksana should also realise that when dealing with an alcoholic of his advanced nature the best thing to do is go no contact in this type of situation. She seems like she’s trying to destroy him when in fact he needs help, and likely 6 months to a year in an Arizona rehab.

As a person who was, as a child, diagnosed with cyclothymia (a milder form of bipolar disorder which has been completely managed with a huge amount of exercise and no drugs), I can tell you that when manic-depressives have an "episode" they say things that, in times of sanity, they do not agree with or hold as true.

The best way normal people can understand this behavior is to remember back to the throes of adolescence when, in a fit of anger, we might have screamed at a parent those famous words "I hate you."

We didn't hate them at all...but when overrun by emotions and hormones, we said things we didn't mean.

Adolescents who experience this are so angry and frustrated with surging hormones and powerful emotions that their limbic systems simply overpower their cerebral cortex (and hence irrational emotion overpowers rational thought).

Take a grownup having a bipolar episode (they're quite similar to the adolescent fits) and add a large dollop of alcohol...and you get Mel Gibson.

I am in no way excusing what he did...he might have even killed someone, even himself.

What I am saying is that he needs to take responsibility for his actions and get immediate help. I can assure you he has been warned of this (by the police, his doctor, and family members).

I hear you Son, I have an adult cousin who is bipolar.

He recently had an episode that require hospitalization.

Right before he went in, he stopped by a family celebration.

Everyone was on pins and needles the entire time he was there.

He came over to me, and one moment he was laughing and joking, and within a minute he was in tears crying about his business.

It is a horrible illness and when adding alcohol or other drugs very frightening and dangerous.

Probably possessed. You knew he’d be a major target after The Passion of The Christ.

People will probably mock that comment, but I too believe it is to be factored in to his behavior.

The star of Passion, was interviewed after the movie, and commented that "You do not make a film about the Passion and not get some of it handed to you."

I think most of Mel's demons have been created by his own behavior.

But than aren't most.

I agree with you. Not to excuse his out-of-control rage but she is most definitely egging him on in my opinion. She is too calm, too smug, and too in control of that conversation.
She makes sure to say she doesn’t want his money, she has lost her career, and he hit her in the teeth. She is pointedly making talking points in that phone call that only she knows is being recorded. She knows how to push his buttons and she is playing him like a violin.

Interesting a Russian immigrant is taking down an American icon whose career was most recently built on championing freedom & Christianity. (Braveheart, The Passion, The Patriot) Maybe no connection - maybe it’s just the devil himself.

I am with you...I am highly suspicious of Oksana’s motives.

I’ve been married to two women who turned out to be total schemers in the end and they made me the subject of some pretty ugly and FALSE stories. Who can be sure that Mel isn’t reacting—or overreacting—to a similar situation?

Well put - thanks for that. Also - I’m a big believer in drugs and exercise being proxies for one another. Interestingly I saw an old film clip of John Lennon where he made a similar comment. He said he preferred heroin to exercise or something like that. Not that I agree with that choice :) - but it again confirms my intuition that the two substitute one for another. I think this is information that is somewhat well known, but not nearly well known enough. It might be that drug seeking behavior is really just a perverted from of exercise seeking behavior.

Wow! Fascinating thought!

I know my mind craves exercise such that I occasionally have to remind myself to take a break for the sake of my body.

I had a spin class yesterday that I decided to skip because I had been working out (cycling and weights) hard for 8 days in a row and was my legs were just out of gas (I do two spin classes a week that I consider "race day").

BTW, the exercise keeps me on a very even keel.

Back to your point, I have noticed that both dogs and horses crave exercise and seem to get depressed when they don't get it. Probably the same for humans...hence your point!

Mel is a drunk. Until/if he gets clean, no amount of criticism, ridicule, counseling etc. will make a dent in his behavior.

All of these threads and outraged responses will ever be anything but noise.

Time is everything with stardom.
I wonder how Gibson compares to Richard Burton?
Famous for alcoholism and epic fights with Liz Taylor- he must have been a horror to live with.
Yet- he is still considered a ‘great actor’ and all of that is gone from the public mind.
I don’t know if they can be compared as actors. But Gibson’s stardom surely equals Burton’s then.
As I said- ‘colorful’ language, drunken binges and self-destructive behavior are nothing new in Hollywood. Private behavior being exposed is- and PC is the new morality that will damage him most.

That’s how I see it - all this is pretty mainstream thinking nowadays - it’s just the idea that “drug seeking behavior is really just a perverted form of exercise seeking behavior” that is the twist, if you will. My dog is the same way too - of course maybe I just made him that way! :)

Tell me, if she was shaking the baby like a ragdoll and he was trying to get the baby away from her, is he still scum?

Mel Gibson: She's Lying and She Secretly Taped Me

According to sources connected with Mel, on January 6, 2010, Mel and Oksana were arguing at home when Oksana took baby Lucia, ran around the backyard, threw herself on the ground, came back inside the house and began shaking Lucia like a ragdoll. Mel followed and the sources acknowledge there was physical contact, but insist Mel did not punch her and was just trying to protect the baby.

There are 2 sides to everything. She's winning the PR war by releasing tapes that a judge had a restraining order on.

I agree with the possible possession. Throw in bipolar and alcoholism and he was a prime candidate for it after that movie.

Okay, I hadn't seen that he said she was doing that but he sounds nuts screaming.

It's still he said/she said. And he has incidents (sp?) outside of this one/her that show this type of behavior is the norm for him.

I've noticed that wife #1 hasn't surfaced with any info. Wonder what she has to say about this side of his personality?

Another part of our society just calved and fell into the waters of depravity.

No. It is a temporary escape from what is happening to our country courtesy of a marxist thug. Sometimes one simply needs to focus on something else for awhile.

Yeah, I wish you could raise the little one, too! She’d still get the religion but with more consistent loving!

Around here we don’t use the adjective-as-noun domestic much either but I do occasionally hear it.

Off to take Madelyn to YM Community Service this morning...

Don't get me wrong, I am not defending Mel. I think he's obviously unhinged. But certain women can illicit this response from some men. She probably can push his buttons like no other. Hence, his leaving his wife of 25 years (or however long) for her.

She is playing a dangerous game, sound like. He sounds very capable of murder.
