"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Thanks for the ping. Warming up the tubes, but had to turn the volume down - too many bleeps to listen to whatever that is supposed to be.
I see it’s Johnny Dollar, Dragnet and Gunsmoke to begin. All good. But, seems like the programming is in a bit of a rut.

Hi, that’s your tax dollars at work broadcasting whatever liberal propaganda they believe is topical.
Yes, the show is a little routine, he’s running the entire series of each of those(one of which is almost up.) Voice your opinion if you care enough send him an email. edhwalker@verizon.net Sometimes he can answer during a show.

A tribute tonight to the announcer of The Shadow and Blue Coal commercials, who just died. Loved that guy!

I’d like a change up myself.
IMO The Shadow was in the top 5 old radio shows ever.

Suspense or scary shows are the most fun for me. Their effect still stands up; can still produce a good scare. And I love the values they played to in the listener.

I love your weekly thread!
I wish it didn’t conflict with my weekly thread.
I would be a regular.
As a child I adored the magic of radio far more than that of TV.

Honestly, as a kid I used to spend hours tuning up and down the radio dial and I would love finding shows like these.
Its like the difference between seeing a movie and reading the book.

Ed just referenced the Michael Jackson funeral? We’re listening to a recording, of recordings?! That’s why there’s no schedule?
And what the heck, Frank Readick Jr of the Shadow died in 1965.
Ok, strange.
