So far, this game has been Chinese water torture. He should have shown them a couple red cards.

German commentator twice called the game “hideous” because of all the fouling and I have to agree.

Spain has a bit more than 10 minutes a man up.

And that was a beautiful goal. Poor defender falling backwards, killing the offsides.

Spain seemed to pick it up when Fabergas was brought in.

Damn, after all this boredom I was really hoping for - at least - the excitement of a penalty shootout.

Poor Holland.

They played practical soccer but it wasn’t enough.

How cold is it there? The entire stands are all wearing coats and the coaches and players all have blankets?

I wouldn't say boring, but hideous indeed. Dutch fouls and Spanish diving, a questionable referee etc...

Elfmeterschiessen would have been a little repayment for two wasted hours...

The Dutch free kick was deflected by the Spanish blocking wall and should have been a corner for the Dutch.

Spain scores on the next trip down after the incorrectly awarded goal kick.

Bad job by the reffing crew, they decided the outcome.

Spain was technical and Holland had to play rough to counter that. While not winning any sympathy points, they at least deserved to go to penalties.

Or in short, the Spanish team used a lock down defense stop the Dutch and it worked. I knew Spain was going for a 1-0 or 2-0 winner and the best defense of the entire tournament outside of that inexplicable loss to Switzerland proved it.

"The Dutch free kick was deflected by the Spanish blocking wall and should have been a corner for the Dutch"

Thank you for seeing that. Couldn't believe that call.

Strange things happen near the end of games like today.
Both teams had plenty of chances to win.

Another moral victory for the Dutch? Maybe. I though Spain had the balance of play.

Yes they played rough enough that any NCAA coach would be proud of them.

I thought Spain showed why the traditional Dutch style is a losing style. It doesn’t wear down the other team and then expect there will be some defensive mistakes to take advantage of. Too much trying to score the “right way”.
