I am looking for recommendations for a CCW pistol. I am working through the legalities of getting my permit, and am starting to shop for a weapon.
I already have a Ruger SR9, and am happy with it, but it is a bit bulky for CC. Want to stay with 9mm, or perhaps .380...leaning towards auto, but could be convinced to carry a wheel gun, also.
Your suggestions are always appreciated.
“My question: Are these numerous posts and responses making us look like a bunch of gun crazed anti-governement types?”
Not to worry, because thanks to the Obamassiah, most of America went out and bought guns and ammo. For example, the public bought 80% as much small arms ammo as did the US military.
Obama will be known to history as the worst President and the world’s best small arms/ammo salesman.
Maybe he is not the Manchurian Candidate from Mecca.
Could he be the Manchurian Candidate from Ilion?
;-)
That being said my favorite is a S&W 638. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.
“I trust my life to a Springfield XD-40 subcompact in a Crossbreed SuperTuck. Over a thousand rounds now without a single FTF or FTE. The weight of the barrel brings it back to target for quick follow-up shots.
Its extremely accurate and fun to shoot. I know that it will go bang every single time, and I love it.”

Yep.
Actually, I think we're a pro-2nd Amendment website.
Also, a pro-Bill of Rights website.
Also, a pro-Constitution website.
I guess that would mean we're a pro-AMERICAN website!
I got one of those. I’m scared to put it in my pants pocket tho. sit down with it in there just right and the hammer can get pushed back just far enough to move the cylinder to firing position...and there’s no transfer bar safety or any safety.
Got to dispute that...Kahrs are notorious for pins "walking" out of the frame when fired.
No hint of such problems from any Keltec.
It’s 642 for me, been carrying it so long I often forget I have it with me. Wife has the Ruger LCP, great belly gun.
Well, it might be a case of (especially now), people with little or no gun experience, who want a first time gun, and who figure that FR is a good place to get knowledge and opinion on the subject. Without such advice, it’s like trying to select a computer from a computer magazine with dozens of models.
Remember that America, in the last 60 years, has been stripped of much of its gun lore and family knowledge by anti-gun forces. It takes time to rebuild such culture, and many people are interested in doing so, what with that unparalleled gun salesman in the White House.
I try to shoot it enough to stay current with it. Which isn’t really all that much.

I am still packing my antique Colt detective Special with silver tips. ample for my needs. If I wanted to go auto for CC i like the new Sig P238. I think I will invest in ammo.

I think your worries are for naught. guns are so popular nowdays that even gun grabbers are buying guns. That’s not a joke either.
I notice they didn’t have a line for the 22 mag. That friend of mine has told me he shot it through a 4 inch phone book. Better penetration than .38 or 9 in fmj. Of course it’s not doing the same damage going through, but I was impressed enough to stop laughing at the little thing.
Thank you very much.
As I understand it the 22 will kill you through blood loss. Not through shock or major organ damage. That translates to the attacker having time to fire back.
Can't add much to what's on the thread. Mine hates White Box, fairly easy to put all 7 rounds of most ammo into a silhouette head at 5, 7, and ten yards, recently had what felt like overpowered American Eagle FMJ fail to feed last week and this time of year it rides in the front pocket of lightweight cargo pants (in a Nemesis). The lady friend absconded (via legal transfer) with my 25 year old Taurus 85.
That Eagle thumped my palm pretty good. Been hearing other Federal stories out there about .223. No way to know if there's anything to it.
Get a Ruger SR9 compact if you like the one you’ve already got. You might have to wait a little bit because they seem to have limited production runs, but you can get one if you look around or if you’re patient.
The nice thing about this is that you’ll never confuse the controls between your carry gun and the one you keep in the house or shoot at the range. Both guns have the same controls.
If that's "good" then "bad" has no meaning!
Ergonomics of a thumbscrew, 12 lb. trigger with a two inch barrel, bright sides, bites like a badger, and so heavy it feels like it's made from depleted uranium!
Yeah...carried one for two years ;o)
Actually, it sits on the top of the NAA Mini revolver. If it were in the grip, chances are your hand might cover it in the stress of a defense scenario.
I found nothing as small with the laser option. Nothing like a red dot on the perp’s nose!
