The Netherlands will face either Spain or Germany in the Final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ after beating Uruguay by the odd goal in five in the first of the tournament’s semi-finals at Cape Town’s Green Point Stadium. Bert van Marwijk’s side were worthy of their victory but were made to work hard for it in an eventful last four encounter punctuated by excellent goals from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Diego Forlan, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Maximiliano Pereira.

One controversial (but IMO correct) call on a goal and overall an excellent match. Good highlights to watch if you are wondering what good, deliberate (not random athleticism like most WC games) soccer looks like.

Doesn’t matter. They are just going to lose to Germany.

First the Bilderberg conference, and now the world cup. Paint the world orange.

Nope. Can’t agree. Germany hasn’t played a good European team yet. The Dutch are more than ready for von Clausewitz tactics. We’ll see what Germany does against Spain.

Given the controversy - bad referee judgment - near the close of the game between Ghana and Uruguay, which helped turn a 1-1 tie that should have become a 2-1 win for Ghana, into a 2-1 win for Uruguay, I am very happy to see Uruguay lose to the Dutch.

It will be interesting if the FIFA final is a total “Germanic” event, between the “Dutch” (modified form of Deutsch), from the Netherlands and the Germans from "Deutschland".

Great job, Holland!

This was, though, the most impressive match played by Uruguay. They showed why they were in the semis. Great match.
