Interesting question. As I was listening to Hannity on the radio on my way to work yesterday afternoon, a caller proposed that the entire Gore/sex Poodle incident was being used by the 'rats and their media lapdogs to deflect attention away from their incompetent leader Obama and his bungling of the oil spill situation. She called Gore a "fall guy".
That's not an unreasonable assertion.
