I flew into El Paso, Texas today and am speaking at the Las Cruces, New Mexico tea party rally tomorrow. Today we stopped by the El Paso City Hall today after it was hit on Wednesday during a drug cartel shootout. The cartel members were reportedly shooting at a Blackhawk helicopter in Juarez that was called to the scene. The bullets hit the Assistant City Managers office at the El Paso City Hall.

Breaking News: 21 Killed in Shootout Between Mexican Gangs Near U.S. Border
Sarc/
They just said 29 dead on our local news (Tucson)...
All three stations were covering the border for the first 5-7 minutes of the 6 pm news, like they have been for awhile now.
Also, KOLD said that the drug cartels are bragging that they now control the U.S. to I-8 (near Casa Grande). I don’t know what their source was, but it was local MSM saying it....
I have also heard the sheriff of Pinal county on Fox News talk about armed lookouts on all the hilltops there. For those who don't know Pinal county's southern border is quite a few miles north of I-8 and I-10. The southern third of AZ is being ceded by inaction to well-armed invaders.
I hope you guys can come up with some links! (I KNOW you can.)
You know - it’s pretty scary for us ol-timers who live alone in a secluded area.
Monday, I will be going to Flagstaff and buying two shotguns and some major ammo.
Shotguns are good, and the only thing to have if you are only going to have one self defense weapon.
But, especially if you are out in the boonies, something with more reach would also be a Good Thing. I might suggest a surplus Moson-Nagant or a Yugo built Mauser, or a Spanish Mauser in 7.62Nato They are still fairly cheap, and with practice (and maybe 'scope), will reach out and remove the bad guys before they get close enough to bother you much. (Some say they kick like a mule, but the two I shot weren't that bad. Both were the full length rifle, not the carbine version) Or maybe a Swiss K-31, the rifle the Swiss soldier carried when their Comanding General was asked by a German General what they would they would do if the Germans invaded with twice as many soldiers as the Swiss could muster. His answer
"We'll all shoot twice and go home."
The Swiss are well known for their marksmanship and won't have a rifle that is not accurate.
Thank you for the links, EG. But, when I bought the .35 S & W, I asked about shotguns. The salesman told me that they are all powerful enough to break your shoulder, if you don’t brace it against the wall behind you (and then it will break through the wall!)
I’m not a youngster anymore, but am a strong, tough lady. (No osteo-perosis). I just want to know that if I am confronted by a gang of thugs - I will be able to give it my best ‘shot’!
I will certainly look into your links, and thank you!
Oh my, yorkie! I didn’t know you lived in this unsettled frontier. You be so careful and yes, get guns ASAP. And lots of them.
Now, I would amend that rifle recommendation, eliminate the Moison and the Mauser. I still think the Swiss rifle would be OK, but they are heavy buggers. However what you need is something like a .270 hunting rifle, any of a number similar "light but still enough for deer" rifles. I have a sister in law, who while still pretty young is also a thin lady. She has her own .270. She came to the US from a state of the Old Soviet Union, and learned to shoot AK-47s there. Which reminds me, an SKS or AK type would also work well. SKS is cheaper, while the AK holds more rounds and is probably more reliable. Or you could get an Arizona made Ruger Mini-30 in the same 7.62x39 chambering, for somewhat more $. The Ruger and the SKS are more easily "scoped" and will do the job, just not quite so far out.
I'm no spring chicken myself. I just got out of the hospital today after getting my right knee joint replaced. I go back in 2-4 weeks to have the other one done too.
I asked several of the nurses and assistants if they had been there on November 5, when that Muslim Maniac shot up so many troops at Ft. Hood. Many had been. The hospital is the same one many of the wounded, including the lady civilian cop who was the first to engage the perp, were taken. It's about as close to the scene as the post hospital.
I bought a Model 88 Mossberg in 12 ga. a while back,,,
8 shot pump,,,
It points/shoots like a dream,,,
You mite get one in 20 ga. that wouldn’t kick so much,,,
If it gets to the situation where you have to use it
you won’t even feel the kick,,,
