"I used to read Spider Robinsons stuff." I had the distinct privilege of briefly meeting him and his late wife Jeanne back in '06 at the D.C. Book Fair.
He autographed a first print copy of "Antinomy" for me, acknowledging then that it was rare.
I had purchased it new in October of 1980, when it came out.

I had “Antinomy.” Paperback. In the early 80s, when I was still in high school.

"What's the dinars to bolivares exchange rate at the bar, anyway?" Depends on the metal content. With time travelers, the purity is usually pretty reliable.

"I had Antinomy. Paperback. In the early 80s, when I was still in high school." It's supposedly available on Amazon, for an outrageous price.

"This is the only book to be remaindered before it got on the shelves. The story is in Melancholy Elephants, which is this book with some extra stories, so if you can't fnd this one. grab Elephants. A truly mind altering experience from word one."

Better pay the bartenders extra, if they’re doing assaying on the side.
I need to make coffee and go to bed. The Male Family Members seem to have assumed I would do it, which I will because you should do unto others as you would like them to do if they had any sense of consideration for others.
Bill’s going to his first real rock concert on Wednesday. One of his friends in Boy Scouts offerred to drive him (with a couple of others) if we’d give him permission and a ticket.

I sold everything for 1/10 of cover price when my parents moved to DC and said they weren’t taking the books I’d left in the attic. 1987, I think.

*Sigh* I suppose it's time the lad get out and find out how the unreal world works.

I used to have a number of books that are now no longer in print. I am trying to rebuild my collection but I am hampered by finances and my own cheapskate nature.
However I have found estate sales to be a wonderful source of cheap and old books.
I found a nice first edition of "Air Service Boys Over the Atlantic" for a dollar. I love things like that!

I suppose there may come a time when the equivalent of the Kindle will be able to put what feels like a real book in your hands, complete with the texture, the smell, and some of the antique flavoring due to tiny imperfections in the printing process.
Hopefully at that time a resurgence in nostalgia for such will have repositories constructed that will be truly for the ages.
It's a thing to wish for, anyway.
I do love books.
... this is why youre living,
Here in the folded lands,
The flat landscape that opens up,
Uncovered by your hands.
Transferring wisdom through those funnels,
You call eyes into your head,
To give you memories of past lives,
As gifts of what youve read.
For now the thousand lives Ive led,
Inure me to some pain,
Those joyous friends I will not see,
Unless I read again,
Yet still they wait, on dusty shelves,
For other eyes than mine,
Like goblets for the next to taste,
Their own first sips of wine.
(Excerpt from "As Long As I Live")

Maybe someone else can find the Topic, my chocolate chip cookies and help me finish packing.
