Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that Barack Obama is doing a better job than hes given credit for.
Clinton, speaking in Cape Town, South Africa as part of the Fortune/Time/CNN Global Forum, said that public perception of the president has lagged behind what he has done to benefit the country.
I think he's done a better job than he's given credit for, Clinton said. I feel very strongly about this.
The former president, who, like Obama, saw his polling numbers dip dramatically during his second year in office, said that Obama is not fully responsible for how he is perceived, adding that a dip in approval is not avoidable in an economic downturn.
Until people feel good about their own lives, they're not going to feel good about their president, Clinton said. And there's nothing you can do about that.
He is a brilliant, articulate and, I think, an exceedingly empathetic person, the former president said of Obama.

Is Bill saying Barry hasn’t got his blue dress yet? Barry keeps slipping away from the press. Where do you think he is going?
There's lotsa brilliant & articulate people out there. What we need is A LEADER!
Here's Barry's "due" Slick Willy.
Coming from a guy who Lies under oath.
For once I agree with the Bilkster. brocko should be in the dock on charges of fraud, malfeasance and cavalier disregard of the Constitution.
That would be “giving him his due”.
FU blow job.

The headline alone tells me islamabama has a lot of power. Billy didn’t have to say anything. For some reason he did. And it wasn’t to get attention. He can do that by simply leaving some stains on some garments here and there.
:-D
Not yet. In 2012.
Issa is already typing up the subpeonas.
The Clinton’s have something up their sleeve.
Bubba’s sweettalk means Hillary wants to be President. (in my translation)
This is as backhanded a compliment as he can give, and I am sure he knows it.
“Geez this here guys not nearly as stupid as he seems” tells everyone how stupid you think he looks.
Don’t worry Cigar-Boy, he’ll get his due in 2012!
By all means, go watch the video. Clinton seems to be praising Obama in some of these transcript soundbites, but he definitely had an undercurrent of criticism througout. For example, he disdainfully says something like “we’re finally letting other countries help us” in the cleanup of the gulf. You do not have to stretch between the lines very far at all to see this little speech is full of “damning with faint praise” snippets on Obama.
Faint praise from the same Slick Willie who called Obama a racist?
Neither Bill Clinton nor Barack Obama have received their due reward yet. But like Robert Byrd and Ted Kennedy, they will get what is coming to them eventually.
Until people feel good about their own lives, they’re not going to feel good about their president”
And there’s nothing you can do about that.
Anyone who saw the contrast between Jimmy Carter (who appeared to be doing his level-headed best to MAKE people feel bad) and Ronald Reagan knows that this statement is as believable as “I did not have sex with that woman.”
Unlike Obama, Reagan knew how the economy worked. Rather than artificially prop up a sick economy with great gobs of federal spending, Reagan and Volcker saw eye-to-eye on having the economy “take its medicine” since that was the only way to purge it of the excesses of the 1970’s. After a painful but brief recession, the economy subsequently went on the longest peacetime growth spurt in American history. And to all appearances, Americans felt pretty damn good since they re-elected Reagan in a landslide in 1984.
Under Obama, our anemic “recovery” is almost certain to end up in a double-dip recession. Is anyone in their right mind predicting a landslide for Obama’s re-election in 2012? Not a chance. Everyone’s wondering whether he’ll even last that long. If he is re-elected, it won’t be anywhere close to a landslide since enough Americans have figured out the truth about our faux “leader.”
