I did not agree with his politics at all, but I respected his knowledge, and his oratory skills.

What does that mean? Prayers elevate us to the very throne of God, do they not? The dead are forevermore sent to their eternal reward, and I personally would not pray for an evil man in the presence of a Holy and Righteous God.

Speaking evil of the dead and praying for the evil dead are entirely two different things.
