The dem gov will appoint a replacement for 2 years. Just another unelected dem senator ruining our lives.......

Radio segment I heard said if he would have died on or after July 1, then it would have been a 2 year appointment. Now there has to be a election to finnish out the 2 year term.

Precisely.

He was head of the Appropriations Committee in the Senate for a very long time (50+ years?) and was relieved of that post last year.

So, I wanna know, how much of our Public Debt can be attributed to him?

Via Karnacki at Salon:

1) Timing is important. As others have noted, the key date here is July 3 -- next Saturday. Under West Virginia law, were a vacancy to be declared before then, an appointee would hold the seat through this November, when a special election would be held to fill the final two years on the term Byrd was elected to in 2006. The winner of that special election would presumably seek a full term in 2012. Were a vacancy to be declared after July 3, an appointee would hold the seat through the 2012 election, when the full six-year term would be up.

So, now, in one last grand gesture of Men-Over-Law, the Donks are going to conspire to have this seat not declared vacant until after July 3, after a suitable period of morning, and all that...

He voted against Impeachment if memory serves.

Censure <> Impeachment.

Robert Byrd will be remembered forever as the being last man to use the “N-Word” while addressing the Senate who got away with it.

And, from the DUmmies, a predictable wailing... “Even the heavens weep”, “I didn’t think I could cry any more today”, and even a “...he was as intellectually spry as a 20 year old.”

I wonder if that would lead to a better or worse government. One could argue we would get people just
positioning themselves to cash in while they were
there, and for positions when they return to private life
since it would no longer be a long term career.

The pathetic thing is that three days after the Special Election, the name "Robert Byrd" will be forgotten by 99% of the American people and 95% of the people of West Virginia.

Inside a year, he will be a tough Trivial Pursuit question: "What person has the most Post Offices named after him..."

So, who is the next President Pro Tem of the Senate? Do I still have to wish for the good health of Nancy Pelosi?

-- So, who is the next President Pro Tem of the Senate? --

Pro tempore ... heh, the Wikipedia entry for "presidential line of succession" is speedy, it shows that position being "vacant." The position is filled by election in the Senate, but the election is a farce in that the winner is always the most senior Senator in the majority party.

“But I will couch my criticism in civilized terms, because the man just died.”

Is it evil to wish for a little something to slow down her forced march to legislative hell?? ;-)

I have already had enough of lionizing the old KKK member. Once again FOX overdoing it.

Wonder if his dog Billy went with him?

So, because of an arcane West Virginia law, if the pompous, verbally flatulent, decrepit wizard of senate arcana and pork had held on for just three more days, the Democrat governor of West Virginia could have guaranteed an appointed replacement sympathetic to the Obamassiah's Marxist agenda?

That's delicious irony right there.
