Leopard and golden retriever who are best of friends.

Spot the difference: The leopard and the golden retriever who are the best of friends

It's a role reversal not commonly seen, but then the cat chasing this dog is a little larger than most.

Salati, a ten-month-old leopard, and her best friend, golden retriever Tommy, like nothing more than to run amok before settling down for a friendly cuddle.

The odd couple were reared together at Glen Afric Country Lodge near Pretoria in South Africa.

"Leopard and golden retriever who are best of friends."

Right up until the time that they aren't.

At 10 months the leopard is still essentially a very young animal. I’m a little concerned about what happens to the Golden when the leopard gets a little older and starts acting like one. These are two very different animals with very different assumptions. Leopards don’t run in packs.

Very sweet. But leopards are solitary animals. When the leopard finally becomes a full adult it will have no room in it’s life for a “buddy”. The dog may become it’s first kill.

When that cat reaches maturity, that dog won’t run fast enough to stop him from being grabbed by the throat.

There have been many inter-species friendships ...of course, we never hear *the rest of the story.*

Here's hoping the owners *wise-up* before the obvious happens.

Far more humans have been killed by leopards than by lions and tigers and bears, oh my.

Leopards are also the meanest of man killers, surpassing both Tigers and Lions as maneaters. One pair of Leopards in India killed 364 people over a two year period, that’s one every other day, before they were finally tracked down and killed(of course the people being eaten didn’t have the right to be armed and kill the Leopards themselves).

The dog looks pretty relaxed in the one picture, but doesn’t when the leopard is rubbing on him. He might be allergic to cats. ;-)
