The Flickr source says that Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy “jokes around” at the G-8 summit in Ontario, Canada, the pre-meeting ahead of the G-20 summit in Toronto this weekend. Doesn’t look like Sarkozy’s laughing, or for that matter that Obama’s telling a joke — although Sarkozy could be saying, “Nah, I’ve heard that before. The punchline is ‘Nanny-state’!” Let’s see what you all think!

What’s with Obama’s creepy habit of putting his hand on other men’s shoulders? Somebody said it’s his attempt to make a dominant gesture. I don’t see other big wheels constantly putting their hands on other men that way, alpha or beta. It just looks odd to me.

That thing he does comes off as a psychological way to assert dominance to me. It's the type of thing a pseudo-intellectual, insecure, wannabe tough guy would do, IMO.

It makes me mad to see a photo like that where he's pointing his finger in some guy's face (let alone the President of a nation) while holding him in place by the shoulder.

My first reaction in any situation like that is to look at the hand touching me until it is removed. If there is any pressure applied, it gets swiped away.

Obama also has a habit of stepping into personal space during these encounters.

It would be interesting to see a compilation of Obama's body language with our "allies" compared to Putin and Medvedev. I find it hard to imagine Obama has the stones to pull this crap with either one.
